Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama has resigned. Was it his own weakness as a leader? Or did he see a threat over the Sea of Japan?
Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) announced his resignation today, just nine months after winning an historic mandate. More significant, the “shadow shogun,” kingmaker Ichiro Ozawa, stepped down from his post as DPJ secretary general. The ruling party is in disarray ahead of crucial upper-house elections next month.
The dramatic developments occurred just days after Hatoyama said he had abandoned his campaign pledge to move Marine Air Station Futenma off crowded Okinawa. Instead, he would, with the United States, build a new American facility in Henoko, a less populated part of the island. For months, the prime minister had been unable to make up his mind as to what to do, signaling change after change in his views. As a result of the controversial decision, announced Friday, the Social Democratic Party left the ruling three-party coalition. That triggered fresh calls for the increasingly unpopular Hatoyama to resign.
Ford Announces Closure of Mercury Brand

The Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday that it plans to discontinue its Mercury division by the end of 2010.
After an internal review of its operations, the automaker determined that growing the recently booming Ford division, and accelerating its efforts to refresh and expand the lineup of its Lincoln luxury car division were its main priorities.
The Mercury nameplate currently holds a .8 market share in the U.S., less than half of the share that was added by the Ford brand so far in 2010. Despite regularly outselling Lincoln, low brand awareness of Mercury, due in part to a lineup of vehicles that are nearly indistinguishable from the much stronger-selling Fords that they are based on, contributed to the decision.
Ford says that no jobs on the manufacturing side will be lost as a result of the closure, but the existing 1,700 Lincoln-Mercury dealerships will be reviewed to determine if they can continue operations selling only Lincoln products, or if they can be merged with Ford franchises. There are no standalone Mercury dealers in North America.
Earlier this year Ford announced that it would be introducing a unique new model for Mercury, based on the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus compact, but the vehicle was never publicly revealed. During a conference call about the elimination of Mercury, Ford’s head of product development, Derick Kuzak, said that Lincoln would be getting its first compact car as a part of the upcoming expansion of its lineup, but did not elaborate on the specifics of the vehicle.
Kuzak added that along with the small car, seven new or significantly redesigned models will be added to the Lincoln portfolio over the next four years.
Finally, after all of the so called birther’s complaints and unsuccessful attempts to out the “president” because he is NOT a natural born citizen, Obama is coming down hard because of his felonious Chicago-style tactics; and due also to Obama’s infamous heavy-handed no-holds-barred campaigning for his health care plan.
OBAMA FINALLY GOT HIS HIND END IN THE WRINGER.
Several months ago, Obama was facing certain embarrassment if his health-care plan had failed. Obama therefore campaigned hard to get every Senate vote that he could — promising ANYTHING to ANYONE that would help him. Double-crossing dirt-bag Arlen Specter crossed his own morals, his reputation, and his party to help Obama. Anything to get re-elected. So he dealt with the Devil (Obama) and it seems that the deal included the Devil trying to help get Specter re-elected at any cost.
For Obama that meant, when the time came, he would make Sestak an offer he might accept in exchange for dropping out of the primary against Specter. Note that Bill Clinton, White House Councel, Obama, and others in this fiasco are attorneys. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Talk is that patsy Bill Clinton was the one who approached Sestak to try and talk him out of running against Obama’s darling, Arlen Specter, in exchange for a high-ranking job in the White House.
What makes it patently clear that Obama and Bauer are dishonest in their reply is that Bill Clinton is NOT, as Sestak has claimed, a White House official able to fit the description given of who contacted Sestak, according to Sestak. Furthermore, you have to be an idiot to believe that the “job offer” to Sestak was simply a non-paying adviser job???? This instead of becoming a Senator with Senator’s pay and prestige? Me thinks the offer from Obama was one of a “higher” kind of job inside the White House. Can you spell f-e-l-o-n-y? Can you spell j-a-i-l t-i-m-e for Obama.
