Translation: We don’t need people who live 1500 miles away telling us what’s going on under our noses:
Gov. Rick Perry (who had plans with a friend today) wasn’t willing to travel all the way to El Paso to meet President Obama on the tarmac, his spokeswoman said after the White House noted the governor declined a meeting.

In a recent Washington Post op-ed, Michael Gerson opines that Ron Paul’s statements in the South Carolina GOP debate amounts to a philosophy that …
…is Social Darwinism. It is the arrogance of the strong. It is contempt for the vulnerable and suffering.
Gerson’s take here is framed from Paul’s statements supporting the decriminalization of vice, notably prostitution and drugs like heroin and cocaine. In a broader swipe at libertarianism in general, Gerson offers this:
But it is an authentic application of libertarianism, which reduces the whole of political philosophy to a single slogan: Do what you will — pray or inject or turn a trick — as long as no one else gets hurt.
Never have I seen a more shallow description of libertarianism, which is a rich matrix of personal responsibility and limited government. These faulty definitions gloss over the fact that libertarians offer solutions to society’s problem, different solutions. I don’t agree with every single one of them as doable options, but I agree with almost all of them in principle. I’d guess many Americans do too, they just don’t know it. It’s difficult for most of us to look outside the parameters of the two party system. Plus, we’re so far away from the founding principles of this nation, any political philosophy adhering to them quickly is bound to be considered radical, as Gerson offers here. It’s a shame, really.

Barack Obama has difficult decisions ahead of him this summer as he mulls over his pledge to draw down American troop levels after the late 2009 surge and a new, aggressive COIN strategy has made progress in Afghanistan. His main partner in the NATO coalition has complicated the problem for the US. UK Prime Minister David Cameron has demanded an immediate drawdown of hundreds of British troops and will apparently insist that his country will exit entirely by 2014:
Following the killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, the Prime Minister is increasingly determined to start bringing the Afghan mission to an end. He has told defence chiefs he wants to start the withdrawal this summer, as the US begins to reduce its troop numbers.

In a desperate effort to divert anger from his Administration over gas prices and to stop people from focusing on how his anti-drilling policies have caused us to be so vulnerable to these price fluctuations, President Obama is pushing anti-oil company rhetoric, demanding increases in oil company taxes. He is confident, in doing so, that the Republican aversion to any tax increase will lead them to shield big oil and incur populist wrath.
He’s right the GOP can’t approve raising oil company taxes and that their refusal to do so will raise the party’s negatives among a broad swath of the population.
But he’s dead wrong in believing that raising this issue will, in any way, make up for his failure to promote domestic drilling. Obama has been so outspoken in his demand that we move away from dependence on fossil fuels and so naively futuristic in depending on renewable energy to replace it, that the average motorist will still grit his teeth in anger at the president every time he gases up. People get that “drill baby drill” is the best and nearest term solution to high gasoline prices and they get that Obama is on the wrong side of the issue.

New from the “Great Nobel Peace Prize Winners” line of action figures from HeroBuilders.com comes President Obama as a SEAL Team Six member in urban fatigues, a “Punisher” t-shirt and carrying a military issue M4A1 rifle:
To which Rush Limbaugh notes, “They used Obama’s head but Michelle’s arms.”
The Hero Builders team worked from a real life pose and took few liberties with the design of this action figure.
Hurry, supplies are limited and Chris Matthews was just seen furiously dialing the phone.
I might get one. It’d look great on the shelf next to my vintage action figure depicting Jimmy Carter as an Army Ranger wearing an “I heart Kim Jong Il” camouflage tank top heroically attempting to appease a horde of attack rabbits using nothing but a free dinner coupon at Club Ramallah and a six pack of Billy Beer.
