For sale: Obama [Used] Cabinet Appointments

[FloppingAces.net]

May 2, 2013

used-cabinet-pritzker-and-obamasAs the country is still standing following the financial crisis, Barack Obama has nominated a key figure in the disaster apparently so she can finish off the country for good.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama tapped Mike Froman and Penny Pritzker for the last two vacant Cabinet slots on his economic team on Thursday, turning to a law school classmate who is already one of his chief advisors and a billionaire businesswoman who helped put him in the White House.

As key members of his team, the two will work to boost demand for U.S. goods and workers, Obama said as he announced the nominations at the White House shortly before leaving on a trip to Mexico, a key U.S. trading partner.

The sought-after suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was arrested Friday night — taken from a boat parked on a trailer behind a house in the suburban town of Watertown, police said.

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, was taken into custody without incident about 8:45 p.m., said Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben.

“We have a suspect in custody,” Alben said at a 9:30 p.m. news conference. “We’re exhausted, folks, but we have a victory tonight.”

Tsarnaev, a Chechen native who became a naturalized U.S. citizen last year on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, was covered with blood when he was arrested, he said.

He was found on the stern end, or back, of the boat, leaning over, Alben said.

The teen was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in “extremely serious” condition, The Boston Globe reports.

“Suspect in custody. Officers sweeping the area,” Boston Police said on Twitter at 8:45 p.m.

“We Got Him,” tweeted Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

‘Pawn Stars’ ex-agents suing for $5 million day after ‘Storage Wars’ star files suit

[FoxNews.com]

Published December 12, 2012

NEW YORK – It’s been a bad week for A&E.

PawnStars_YouTubeFirst, Dave Hester sued the network, claiming “Storage Wars” was staged. Now the network’s History Channel division has its own lawsuit brewing over its hit show “Pawn Stars.”

A talent agency has filed a lawsuit against The History Channel, TMZ reported, claiming they signed on to represent the cast of “Pawn Stars” back in 2007 and 2009 and were terminated after the show hit the air.

The agency, Venture IAB, claims they were representing Corey Harrison, Rick Harrison, Richard Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell before the stars made it big. The agency alleges six months after the show hit the air, two “Pawn Star” executives convinced the cast to end their deal with Venture.

According to court documents, posted on The Hollywood Reporter’s website, History Channel Vice President Mary Donahue and General Manager Nancy Dubuc “intentionally interfered with the Agency Agreements by inducing the Harrisons, Golden State Pawn Stars, and Russell to terminate the [Venture IAB] agreement.”

This resulted in the loss of millions of dollars in income, the talent agency claims.

Democrats (Heart) Socialism

[American Spectator]

communism_vote-DemocratGallup bone-chillingly confirms what the party of government truly fancies.

On  the strength of a capitalist economic system, America created a material standard of living for the world to envy while providing its citizens with high levels of personal freedom. But today capitalism, and attendant freedom, are being systematically dismantled in America (and being depth-charged in Europe), while understanding and appreciation of these things are receding. Gallup provides proof of this, and confirms conservatives’ fears and suspicions.

Loyal elves in the media wing of the Democratic Party establishment — aka the mainstream media — hyperventilate when Barack Obama is identified as a socialist, or the Democratic Party is accused of promoting socialist policies. “Vile and unfair accusations,” they wail, before retiring to their fainting couches.

But if a survey released last week by Gallup is any indication, it’s hard to see what all the indignation is about. A majority of people — 53 percent — who describenewsweek-dems-socialism themselves as Democrats or leaning Democrat, admit to Gallup’s pulse takers that they have a positive image of socialism. Only two percent more — 55 — say they are positive about capitalism. A robust 75 percent of Democrats say they have a positive image of the federal government.

NYT: Arms Shipments ‘Secretly’ Approved by Obama Ended Up in Hands of Islamic Militants

New York Times: Arms Shipments Secretly Approved by Obama Admin. Ended Up in Hands of Islamic Militants

Rebels in Ras Lanuf, Libya, March 11, (Credit: AP)

The Obama administration “secretly” approved arms shipments to Libyan rebels from Qatar last year, however, U.S. officials quickly became concerned as evidence suggested Qatar was handing the weapons over to Islamic militants, The New York Times reports, citing a number of United States officials and foreign diplomats.

There is no evidence available that suggests the U.S.-approved weapons were involved in the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, which left four Americans dead on Sept. 11. But the revelation is sure to ignite speculation.

More from The New York Times:

But in the months before, the Obama administration clearly was worried about the consequences of its hidden hand in helping arm Libyan militants, concerns that have not previously been reported. The weapons and money from Qatar strengthened militant groups in Libya, allowing them to become a destabilizing force since the fall of the Qaddafi government. The experience in Libya has taken on new urgency as the administration considers whether to play a direct role in arming rebels in Syria, where weapons are flowing in from other countries.

GOP Infighting, Tea Party ‘Purges’ Break Out over Fiscal Cliff

Republicans in the U.S. Congress attacked each other on Tuesday over their leadership’s “fiscal cliff” offer to Democratic President Barack Obama as a group of governors visited the White House to voice concern about the impact on the states of the year-end tax-and-spending deadline. In only a matter of hours on Tuesday, conservatives from all around Washington blasted Boehner’s plan:

  • Sen. Jim DeMint, a South Carolinian with a following among small-government conservatives, lashed out at House Speaker John Boehner, saying his $2.2 trillion deficit plan would cost jobs and mushroom the debt.
  • Two first-term Republican Tea Party stalwarts – Tim Huelskamp of Kansas and Justin Amash of Michigan – were removed by party leadership from the powerful budget committee in what Huelskamp called “a vindictive move.”
  • A top House conservative, Jim Jordan of Ohio, was scheduled to unveil his own fiscal cliff plan on Tuesday but has backed off in the wake of Boehner’s offer to President Obama.

Egypt’s president sets date for constitution vote

CAIRO –  Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi called Saturday for a referendum in two weeks on a contentious draft constitution, setting a date for another milestone in the country’s transition to democracy. Widespread disputes over the charter and Morsi’s recent seizure of near absolute power have marred the process and thrown the country into turmoil.

As has been the case in nearly two years since Hosni Mubarak was ousted, what should have been a cause for national celebration turned into dueling protest between opponents and supporters of how the transition has been managed– largely divided along Islamist and secular lines.

More than 100,000 Morsi supporters organized by the Muslim Brotherhood and ultraconservative Salafi groups took to the streets of Cairo and other cities a day after a massive opposition demonstration against his recent decrees giving him immunity from judicial oversight and the charter that was rushed through an assembly packed with allies.

The presidency has been locked in a tug of war with the powerful judiciary and secular and Christian activists since Morsi granted himself far-reaching powers on Nov. 22 in a bid to pre-empt an expected decision by the Supreme Constitutional Court on Sunday to dissolve the constitutional panel, as it had done the Islamist-led parliament earlier this year.

Could Obamacare Go the Way of McCain-Feingold?

[American Spectator]

By on 11.30.12 @ 6:10AM

McCain-FeingoldThe “Affordable Care Act” might die a death of a thousand legal cuts.

Last June, upon learning that the Supreme Court had ruled Obamacare’s individual mandate constitutional, many observers were forced to concur with the Dickens character who opined, “If the law supposes that… the law is an ass.” Yet, the increasing number of anti-PPACA lawsuits that have been receiving serious attention from the courts suggests that the legal system may not be as irrational as it seemed when Chief Justice John Roberts began braying from the bench on June 28. If this seems Pollyannaish, consider the fate of McCain-Feingold.

White House: Obama ‘Will Not Sign’ a Deal Unless It Increases Taxes

[CNSNews.com]

President Barack ObamaPresident Barack Obama (AP Photo)

(CNSNews.com) – White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said today that no matter what else happens President Barack Obama–who is the only modern president other than Franklin Roosevelt to serve in four years when federal spending topped 24 percent of GDP–will not sign a deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff that will arrive at the end of this year unless that deal increases taxes.

“So the President made clear that he is not wedded to every detail of his plan,” said Carney. “The President has also made categorically and abundantly clear that he will not sign an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for top earners. It’s bad economic policy and we cannot afford it.  He will not sign that.”

According to official calculations made by the White House Office of Management and Budget that go back to 1930, Barack Obama and Franklin Roosevelt are the only two presidents who have served in four fiscal years when federal spending exceeded 24 percent of GDP. Roosevelt did so in 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945 (when he died in office). Obama did so in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

[CNSNews.com]

November 6, 2012

White House reportedly preps strike team to take out terrorists tied to Libya attack

[FoxNews.com]

Associated Press

Published October 15, 2012

WASHINGTON –  The White House has put special operations strike forces on standby and moved drones into the skies above Africa, ready to strike militant targets from Libya to Mali — if investigators can find the Al Qaeda-linked group responsible for the death of the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans in Libya.

But officials say the administration, with weeks until the presidential election, is weighing whether the short-term payoff of exacting retribution on Al Qaeda is worth the risk that such strikes could elevate the group’s profile in the region, alienate governments the U.S. needs to fight it in the future and do little to slow the growing terror threat in North Africa.

Details on the administration’s position and on its search for a possible target were provided by three current and one former administration official, as well as an analyst who was approached by the White House for help. All four spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the high-level debates publicly.

The dilemma shows the tension of the White House’s need to demonstrate it is responding forcefully to Al Qaeda, balanced against its long-term plans to develop relationships and trust with local governments and build a permanent U.S. counterterrorist network in the region.

Vice President Joe Biden pledged in his debate last week with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan to find those responsible for the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others.

Here Are 11 Incredible Pictures From Sunday’s Edge-of-Space Skydive

[TheBlaze.com]

Felix Baumgartner Red Bull Stratos Skydive

For months TheBlaze has been talking about Felix Baumgartner and his anticipated, record-breaking skydive from the edges of space, for which he has been preparing himself for the last five years. After the stratosphere jump was delayed due to weather concerns in the New Mexico last week, Baumgartner successfully (and safely) took on the challenge Sunday.

Here is the stats breakdown of his Red Bull Stratos project jump and accomplishments:

  • Jump Height: 128,100 feet (24.26 miles; the Karman Line, which is usually used as the boundary between Earth and space, lies at 62 miles above sea level)
  • Time Free Falling: 4:20 minutes
  • Distance in Free Fall: 119,846 feet (22.7 miles)
  • Top Speed: Mach 1.24 (faster than the speed of sound)
  • Records:
      Highest jump
    Fastest ever free fall
    Highest manned balloon flight

Although the numbers are impressive, the pictures show the what the stats simply can’t. Here are some of the best images:

This Graph Says an Awful Lot About the So-Called ‘Recovery’

[TheBlaze.com]

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about “the recovery” and lot of arguing over who’s to blame for its supposed slowdown. But before we got too bogged down in who’s responsible for retarding economic growth, maybe we should first look at the data.

Without one word of explanation, Harvard University econ professor Greg Mankiw posted the following graph to his blog:

This Graph Says an Awful Lot About the So Called RecoverySource: Bureau of Labor Statistics

As you can see, the shaded area indicates the recession and everything to the right of that is the so-called “recovery.”

Huh.

So, was this what the White House meant when it said we’re moving in the right direction or should we just not read too much into the data?

How to Defeat and Replace Obamacare Now

American Spectator

[Spectator.org]

The Right Prescription (Stop the Obama Tax Tidal Wave)

By on 7.5.12 @ 6:10AM

There is life after Roberts’ double cross and Obama’s latest flurry of lies.

Whether Left, Right, Independent, or Confused, no one who is not bought and paid for as part of the Obama political machine is going to like the Obama Double Cross of the American people on Obamacare. Before Obamacare was passed, Obama told the American people over and over, even on national TV, that the individual mandate was not a tax. After Obamacare was passed, Obama sent his lawyers into courts all over the country to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional precisely because it is a tax.

This is the top argument to feature now in discrediting Obama and Obamacare. No one likes a dishonest liar. Even worse when that dishonest liar is supposed to be our nation’s leader. When he sent his own lawyers into courts all over America to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional because it is a tax, he demonstrated that when he told the nation it was not a tax, he knew all along that was not true, and that he was planning all along to double cross the people he was supposed to be leading. That alone disqualifies him from serving as President. The majority of Americans who are still capable of thinking will recognize that we can’t have as our nation’s leader a dishonest double crosser.

Romney and his Republicans must now play in ads all over America the clips of Obama and his Democrats denying in dismissive terms that the individual mandate could in any way be considered a tax. Then they need to dramatize that after the Obamacrats had tricked the American people, they sent their lawyers into court to argue just the opposite, thinking that the American people are too stupid to realize they had been tricked.

Conservative Radio Host Mark Levin Takes To Fox News To Argue That Federal Judges Need Term Limits

[Mediaite.com]

by Jon Bershad | 4:04 pm, July 3rd, 2012

The Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act was about a bazillion years ago. However, some people are still angry about it. Shockingly (SHOCKINGLY!!!), the man who once wrote a book called Men in Black: How the Supreme Court Is Destroying America is one of them. That man, of course, is conservative radio host Mark Levin. Levin is furious at the recent CBS News report that Chief Justice John Roberts may have been swayed by the media. Levin is so furious at this kind of media tomfoolery that he went on Fox News (where’s he’s appeared a few times the past couple days) and called for Roberts to lose his job.

Shockingly (SHOCKINGLY!!!), it would appear that some media pressure is better than others.

Levin called in to talk to Megyn Kelly to lash out at Roberts and the Supreme Court. He began by mocking conservatives who were attempting to see a “silver lining” in the ruling, claiming that they were “blinded by their silliness.” He then argued that it was time to instate term limits for federal judges.

“What we lack, Megyn, in too many public officials — and that would included judges and justices, not all but too many — is virtue, integrity, prudence. And, over time, they become cynical, they become deceitful, and their view of our constitutional system collapses. And one way to try to address this is to ensure that there’s more opportunity for other great people, brilliant lawyers, judges, and so forth to step up to the plate and have an honest opportunity to participate in the governance of this country.”

Obama Camp Concedes: Romney Will Raise More Cash Than Us

[Newsmax.com]

By Jim Meyers

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney surged ahead of President Barack Obama in fundraising for the first time last month — and a senior Obama adviser concedes that Obama will be the first incumbent president to be out-raised by his opponent.

Romney’s campaign and the Republican Party together raised more than $76 million in May, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission, while Obama and the Democrats brought in $60 million.

Obama campaign officials predict that Romney will also outdo Obama and the Democrats in June with a $100 million haul.

“I think Romney is going to continue to have big months,” an Obama campaign official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters. “Combine that with the Super PAC stuff, and we are going to be the first incumbent outspent. That’s clear.”

Senior advisers in the Obama campaign told The New York Times that Romney and groups supporting him will spend $1.25 billion on television advertising.

“Republicans are betting they can win this thing on the air,” one adviser said. “Make no mistake, we will be outspent.”

On Wednesday, Romney enjoyed what campaign officials described as his single best day of fundraising yet, taking in between $6 million and $8 million during a swing through Michigan.

Rush: Obama created crimes with gunrunning

[WND.com EXCLUSIVE]

‘It was liberalism on parade. It’s who these people are’

rush-limbaugh

Radio giant Rush Limbaugh is coming down hard on the Obama administration’s “Fast and Furious” operation today, calling it “liberalism on parade” in a misguided attempt to promote stricter gun control in America.

“The whole point of Fast and Furious was to create mayhem in Mexico among drug cartels with American-made weapons easily procured so that you and I would stand up in outrage and demand tighter gun laws,” Limbaugh said.

“It was deceitful. It was sneaky. It was going against the will of the American people. It was liberalism on parade. It’s who these people are. They want tighter gun laws.”

The White House today tried to undercut a congressional investigation of the scandal in which the Department of Justice allowed guns to be sold and delivered to Mexican drug cartels by announcing tens of thousands of documents were covered by executive privilege.

This afternoon, a House panel voted to place Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena for the documents, defying Obama’s assertion of executive privilege.

Issa: Holder didn’t produce Fast and Furious documents in Capitol Hill meeting

[FoxNews.com]

FoxNews Video – DOJ Eric Holder up for CONTEMPT VOTE

GOP Rep. Darrell Issa said his face-to-face meeting Tuesday with Attorney General Eric Holder failed to produce the documents requested for the congressional investigation into the Justice Department’s botched Fast and Furious gun walking operation and suggested he needs them by Wednesday morning to stop a scheduled vote to put Holder in contempt of Congress.

Issa told reporters after the roughly 20-minute meeting that Holder instead briefed them on the documents in lieu of delivering them. And he suggested he might delay the contempt vote, called for because Holder and the department have not responded to two subpoenas requesting additional information.

“The deadline will always move to the last minute,” said Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. “We’re not looking to hold people responsible. We’re looking for document production.”

Issa also acknowledged being “disappointed” that he and Holder could not reach a deal that would stop the contempt vote.

The failed Fast and Furious operation attempted to selling thousands of guns to arms dealers along the U.S.-Mexico border to trace them to leaders of drug cartel. However, many of them showed up in crimes scenes, including where U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed in a shoot out.

Recovery? Half of American Households Living on Government Benefits

[Townhall.com]

Some astoundingly grim news on the “economic recovery” front: half of American households are receiving government funds to support themselves. No matter which way you slice it, this number isn’t good news for the Obama administration — they can spin the jobs numbers by ignoring the number of people who dropped out of the workforce, but this statistic is pretty straightforward.

The 49.1% of the population in a household that gets benefits is up from 30% in the early 1980s and 44.4% as recently as the third quarter of 2008.

The increase in recent years is likely due in large part to the lingering effects of the recession. As of early 2011, 15% of people lived in a household that received food stamps, 26% had someone enrolled in Medicaid and 2% had a member receiving unemployment benefits. Families doubling up to save money or pool expenses also is likely leading to more multigenerational households. But even without the effects of the recession, there would be a larger reliance on government.

“I believe that no matter how difficult the environment nothing is impossible if you put your heart to it,” he told a cheering crowd at NYU shortly after arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday evening.

First Solar CEO grilled for dumping stock after taxpayer loan

[HumanEvents.com]

“This is absolutely abysmal.”
May 17, 2012

First Solar chairman of the board Michael Ahearn, who was once CEO of that fabled “green energy” disaster, hopped on his corporate jet and flew to Washington this week, for a nostalgic look back at President Obama’s “investments” held by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.  I asked House Oversight chairman Darrell Issa if Ahearn’s jet was solar-powered, or perhaps powered by lightning strikes like the one used by France’s new socialist president Francoise Hollande, but the busy Chairman hasn’t gotten back to me yet.

The House hearing bore a title that could serve as one of American history’s great rhetorical questions: “The Obama Administration’s Green Energy Gamble: What Have All The Taxpayer Subsidies Achieved?”  One of the President’s notable achievements was inspiring Ahearn to sell over $450 million of his own company’s stock between 2008 and 2012, a period when First Solar’s stock value dropped by almost 95 percent.

Michael Ahearn might have thought his own company was a lousy investment, but who was he to question the investment wisdom of Barack Obama?  In August 2011, after years of collapsing First Solar value, and undoubtedly tense conversations between Ahearn and his broker, the President – which means you – subsidized a billion-dollar Department of Energy loan to First Solar.  A couple of days later, Ahearn celebrated by selling another 700,000 shares of his own First Solar stock, raking in a cool $68.5 million.

Life is not tough for everybody under Obamanomics.
