NEWTOWN, Conn. –  While the people of Newtown do their best to cope with loss and preserve the memories of their loved ones, another class of residents is also finding it difficult to move on: the emergency responders who saw firsthand the terrible aftermath of last week’s school shooting.

Firefighter Peter Barresi was driving through Newtown on Friday when police cars with lights flashing and sirens blaring raced toward his oldest son’s elementary school. After he was sent to Sandy Hook school himself, he saw things that will stay with him forever.

With anguished parents searching for their children, he prepared to receive the wounded, but a paramedic came back empty-handed, underscoring the totality of the massacre. Barresi, whose own son escaped unharmed, later discovered that among the 26 dead were children who played baseball with his son and had come to his house for birthday parties.

Evil Comes Calling

Searching for answers after Newtown and finding little.

SandyHookIt’s been three days since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., and America is still in a daze.

We see it everywhere. At coffee shops, people sit at tables, talking uncomfortably, stifling tears. At malls, shoppers meander while the Christmas music drifting from the speakers sounds flippant, even mocking. At Sunday mass, burly men dab their eyes during the homily.

We’ve endured a string of shootings lately, from the movie theater in Aurora to the mall in Clackamas. But this one hit harder, bringing a collective grief and loss that hasn’t been felt in America since 9/11. News anchors keep telling us that Newtown is the second worst school shooting in our history, after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre. But really, it’s the worst. Most of those killed were children, six- and seven-year-olds, shot three to 11 times with a semiautomatic rifle. The scene was the most disturbing that Connecticut’s veteran medical examiner had ever seen.

There Are No Words: The Tragedy in Photos

[TheBlaze.com]

Editor’s note: We’ll be discussing the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on a special live BlazeCast at 4pm ET.

Richard Wilford, the father of a 7-year-old in second grade who attended Sandy Hook Elementary School where the tragic shooting of 26 people, 18 of whom were children, said “there’s no words” to describe what happened in Newtown, Conn., Friday morning.

“It’s sheer terror, a sense of imminent danger…,” he said, according to the Associated Press.

The photos coming in from the scene certainly express this one father’s sentiments:

Gov. Scott Walker Challenger Runs From Obama

37633[Editor:  After decades of progressive liberal politics in Wisconsin, this "cradle" of Liberal Democrat Socialism will finally be defeated in Wisconsin.  THIS WILL BE A REFERENDUM ON INCUMBENT PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.]

Tom Barrett, Scott Walker’s challenger in the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election, told CNN this morning that he didn’t ask President Obama to stop by the state to rally Democrats in his support. “We understand he’s got a lot going on,” said Barrett.

Barrett was clearly afraid of being associated with President Obama or the national political scene: “I want to make sure that everybody understands this is about Wisconsin values. It’s not about Washington, D.C. It’s about right here, who is going to control the future of this state? Will it be tea party, the national right wing? Or is it going to be the state of Wisconsin, and I’m putting my money on the people of the state of Wisconsin.”

Federal Reserve Constitutionality Propaganda Taught To 8-12 Graders

[FrontPorchPolitics.com]

I have written on the unconstitutionality of the Federal Reserve System before and how that fiat money is not to be printed by the federal government in any form. The Constitution is clear that only gold and silver coin is to be coined by the government. Those metals are the only metals they have authority to coin. Yet the propaganda machine of the Federal Reserve is now putting out it’s own educational propaganda material in order to teach 8-12 graders otherwise.

The lesson description begins,

The Constitution of the United States outlines the basic principles of the U.S. government. This lesson focuses on the express and implied powers of Congress and the power of the Supreme Court to decide whether a law is unconstitutional.

Daniel Parmertor and Russell King Jr. split photo

The left image, provided by family, shows Daniel Parmertor, who died Monday following a shooting rampage at Chardon High School in Ohio. Russell King Jr., right, shown in a yearbook photo, was declared dead on Tuesday, authorities said.

The suspect in a shooting rampage at an Ohio high school that killed three and wounded two others will remain in detention, a judge ruled at a hearing Tuesday.

The court identified the suspect as T.J. Lane, and said that prosecutors have until March 1, 2012 to formally charge him.

He will be detained for 15 days, Judge Timothy Grendell ruled.

Authorities had not yet identified Lane citing legal reasons, but plan to do so in a press conference later Tuesday.

A lawyer for the suspect’s family had earlier identified him to a Cleveland television station as a 17-year-old junior at the high school who has been described by fellow classmates as an outcast.

Obama to give 10 states a pass on No Child Left Behind deadline

AP – Feb. 7, 2012: President Barack Obama talks with, from left, Janet Nieto, Gwynelle Condino, and Ana Nieto, all from Presidio, Texas, in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington during the White House Science Fair.

WASHINGTON –  President Obama is set to give 10 states a pass regarding an approaching deadline under the No Child Left Behind law, after the states struggled to meet the proficiency standards for reading and math.

The executive action will circumvent Congress, which has been stuck on how to rewrite the law. A White House official confirmed to Fox News on Thursday that the 10 states will receive “flexibility” allowing them to miss 2014 targets for student proficiency. However, those states will be required to set new targets, and implement “comprehensive” plans to reward high-performing schools, punish low-performing schools, prepare students for college and the work force and evaluate school officials.

Sesame Street: Food Insecure: Puppet Promotes Gov’t-Funded Food Programs, Free Breakfast and Lunch

[TheBlaze.com]

The Blaze first told you about Lily, Sesame Street’s new “food insecure” puppet, back in October. Back then, she made her debut with a one-hour television special to raise awareness about American families with limited food access.

Now Lily’s back, and she‘s helping to promote Sesame Workshop’s national “Food for Thought: Eating Well on a Budget” campaign, an English-Spanish initiative to help families with young children cope with “uncertain or limited access to affordable and nutritious food.”

During an appearance Thursday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Lily extolled the virtues of government-funded food programs for schoolchildren.

“You see, well, it‘s just that sometimes we can’t always afford to buy all the food that we need,” Lily said. “I mean, but we’ve been finding lots of ways that we can get help…Yeah, for example, at school, at school I get a free breakfast and a lunch…part of the meal plan.”

According to CNS News, Lily’s “message” is being circulated through schools, hospitals and food assistance programs with materials to teach families how to access “services that can assist your family” and “referrals to social service agencies.” Food for Thought organizers say they have produced millions of kits, also available online.

Why Are Young Evangelicals (Almost) Just as Sexually Active as Non-Believers?

Below, see the safe sex and abstinence ad put out by the Candie’s Foundation (featuring Bristol Palin and “The Situation”).

Christians are known for believing that sex is something best saved for marriage. But research over the past few years seems to indicate that young evangelicals are almost just as sexually active as their non-believing counterparts.

This subject has been studied numerous times, with the latest discussion on the matter coming in the October issue of the Relevant, an evangelical Christian magazine geared toward young people. In an article, entitled “(Almost) Everyone’s Doing It,” Tyler Charles examines several studies that shed light on the sexual activity of single Christians.

‘Waiting for Superman’ Review: Everyone Needs to See This Movie

Patriots, I am heart broken and extremely angry. TEA for Education, a non-profit, invited me to a viewing of the documentary, “Waiting For Superman”. Wow, talk about powerful. I realize many of you are familiar with this movie, but many are not.

The movie exposes how America’s public education system is about keeping the teachers unions fat and happy at the expense of our kids. The devastating affect on the lives of “real people”, students and their parents is infuriating.

Despite what libs would have you believe, we spend a ton of money, per child, on education. And yet, public school test scores continue to plummet. Your money is not going to teachers, it is going to bureaucrats and union dues. The democrat party receives 90% of teachers unions political contributions.

In the movie, committed good teachers and administrators attempted to implement common sense changes to better educate students. They were politically beaten down and kicked to the curb by the teachers unions. How dare these teachers and administrators buck the system!

Progressives: Don’t blame Gov. Walker!

CWNews

March 10, 2011, by Justin Waldman

The only thing Gov. Walker is guilty of is not explaining in a clear fashion, through all the media, what his intentions were and why he was doing what he did. Scott Walker is a man of his word. He promised Wisconsin voters that he would cut spending without raising taxes. That is what he promised, and that is what he is doing. Those who say that he gave tax breaks to big corporations don’t realize that he has merely offered “tax incentives” to get corporations to come to Wisconsin to create more jobs.

The focus on the protester and exterior events is what the progressive want.  The primary focus in Wisconsin should be on the dereliction of duty of the 14 Democrat legislators that fled the State Capitol to the state of Illinois.  The only word that clearly depicts this action by these law makers is “cowardice.”

AP – Police try to secure a door during a protest at the Wisconsin state Capitol March 10 in Madison.

In a decisive blow to union power, Wisconsin lawmakers voted Thursday to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from the state’s public workers.

The state’s Assembly passed Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s explosive proposal 53-42 Thursday. The state’s Senate approved it the night before after using a procedural move to bypass its AWOL Democrats.

Walker says he’ll sign the legislation as quickly as possible.

“I applaud all members of the Assembly for showing up, debating the legislation and participating in democracy,” Walker said in a statement. “Their action will save jobs, protect taxpayers, reform government and help balance the budget.”

AP – March 3: Teammates hoist Wes Leonard up after he hit the game-winning basket as the Fennville (Mich.) Blackhawks celebrate their victory against the Bridgman Bees, bringing their record to 20-0.

FENNVILLE, Mich. — One moment: a perfect shot to end a perfect season. The star player, just 16, lifted off the floor in celebration. Teenagers triumphant, crowds cheering, the district playoffs ahead, the future open wide.

The next: Wes Leonard on the gym floor, his enlarged heart failing, his life fading just a few moments after his victory layup. Packed bleachers suddenly stunned by an event that made basketball seem a distant, unimportant memory.

A day after Leonard died from an enlarged heart, this small town near Lake Michigan remembered an “all-American kid” whose athletic heroics had been local legend since middle school, when opposing coaches sometimes asked to see his birth certificate, not believing someone so young could be so skilled.

Elect Your Boss–Easy as 1-2-3!

There’s a dirty little secret in public school governance: for a few thousand dollars, unions can run the table. How? Elect the school board. Then, at negotiation time, they’re sitting across the bargaining table from their friends.

Who is looking out for taxpayers? In far too many school districts, no one. The inmates are running the asylum.

When unions have the ability to elect their boss – the Michigan Education Association actually has a how-to manual on the subject – a conflict of interest presents itself.

Texas Conservatives Provide Model for Combating School District Corruption and Waste

Brandon Darby

by Brandon Darby

As School districts across the nation face what administrators are claiming is a lack of funding, Texas Conservatives counter such claims in their own state by citing examples of irresponsible appropriations and misuse of funds on top of gargantuan administrator salaries.

As scores of teachers are either being laid off or forced to dig deeper into their own pockets for classroom supplies, some Texas school administrators and left of center political interests have been quick to direct blame at Texas Governor Rick Perry for his defending of the state’s educational sovereignty. By refusing federal dollars, Governor Perry also rebuffed the attached efforts of the Obama administration to further regulate the education and curriculum of Texas students.

In an indicting editorial posted today on Texas-based texasgovote.com, a young Army National Guardsman named David Bellow took his local school board administration to task for the blatant mishandling of tax-payer funds. Bellow went further to shine light on another Texas school district’s blatant wasting of monies. He pointed out that Texas’ Beaumont ISD serves a city of approximately 100,000 individuals, yet the superintendent receives an annual $360,000 salary. He also pointed out that this gargantuan salary is amongst the highest of any public-sector official in the state and well over two times what the Texas Governor earns overseeing the entire state.

When trying to understand how such disrespect for tax-payers and their dollars could exist, it’s important to note that both of the school districts referenced by Bellow reside in long-time, good ol’ boy, Democrat-controlled counties where liberal fiscal irresponsibility abound and are the norm. Though many in the referenced counties vote conservative in national elections, they have historically voted for Democrats in local races. This has allowed a network of cronies and what would now be called “Chicago-style” politics to thrive without accountability. And much like their national party, local Democrats spend irresponsibly and make every effort to frame the problem as not having had enough tax-payer money in the first place. This dynamic is not unique to Texas and the feasible solution is not unique to the state either.
