Rush: Why Obama really uses teleprompter

MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews, who famously said he felt a thrill up his leg listening to Barack Obama speak in 2008, is now blaming a lackluster speech Wednesday by the U.S. president in Berlin on the sun.

“I think a lot of the problem he had today was the late afternoon sun in Berlin ruined his use of the teleprompter and so his usual dramatic windup was ruined,” Matthews said moments after the address. “I think he was really struggling with the text there.”

Online commenters are having a field day with Matthews’ remark, with comments such as, “Five years into his presidency, even sychophants like Chris Matthews know they can no longer blame Bush. So starting here, starting now, it becomes official: It’s the sun’s fault.”

Independents blame White House for IRS scandal

O-af-1A clear majority of independents, and even a plurality of Democrats, believe high-ranking IRS officials were aware of the agency’s harassment of conservatives’ political organizing, according to a new Gallup poll. The poll’s results are risky for Obama, whose political approval rate has remained relatively high, despite the lousy economy, because of his relatively high personal ratings.

Sixty-two percent of adults disapprove of his handling of the IRS scandal, said the Gallup poll. Only 32 percent of adults approve of his reaction to the scandal.

If his approval ratings falls, he’ll have even more difficulty accomplishing his top political goals. Those goals include passage of an immigration bill and winning a Democratic majority in the House.

Fifty-seven percent of independents say high IRS officials were “aware of conservative targeting,” said the Gallup poll, released Friday. Only 23 percent believe the “knowledge [was] limited to IRS employees in one office.”

Gingrich, Republicans: Obama’s Counterterrorism Strategy Threatens National Security

[CNSNews.com]

Sunday, 26 May 2013

Newt GingrichRepublican lawmakers denounced Democratic President Barack Obama’s plan for winding down the U.S. war on terror, calling it a misguided approach that undermines national security.

Obama’s May 23 policy speech, which urged an end to the broad war powers Congress approved to fight al-Qaeda after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was portrayed by Republicans as a lack of resolve in the face of terrorism threats worldwide.

“At a time when we need resolve the most, we are sounding retreat,” Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, said on the “Fox News Sunday” program. “Our enemies are emboldened all over the planet. Al-Qaeda in Iraq is coming back with a vengeance.”

The president said he would curtail drone strikes and push for an eventual closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba. The speech called for a ratcheting-down of the war on terrorism, with Obama saying that the U.S. may be drawn into more wars unless the nation moderates its stance.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Obama, as well as the Republican Bush administration, failed to talk honestly about the scope of the global threat posed by terrorism. The president’s speech missed the mark, he said.

Kerry Pledges to ‘Leave No Stone Unturned’ on Benghazi Culpability

[CNSNews.com]

May 10, 2013

“I am absolutely determined that this issue will be answered, will be put to bed, and if there’s any culpability in any area that is appropriate to be handled in some way with some discipline, it will be appropriately handled,” he told reporters in Rome as he wrapped up a four-day foreign trip.

“But that judgment awaits me in a report that will be forthcoming, and I’m confident that any recent evidence will be a component of that consideration.”

Responding to questions about claims made during Wednesday’s congressional hearing on Benghazi, Kerry said, “The State Department will leave no stone unturned.”

“I’ve already made it crystal clear to the chairmen of the relevant [congressional] committees that I have assigned my chief of staff, David Wade, to be responsible for liaisoning with them to answer any questions that they have.”

Kerry said he had only “seen the most cursory headlines” about the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing and said he would need to get back to the U.S. before he could “catch up to the full measure of what took place.”

Benghazi Hearing…

[FloppingAces.net]

By:

May 09, 2013

hicks benghaziWatching the Benghazi hearings and I’m struck with how the Democrats are trying to filibuster the testimony. One side seems to want to get the facts, one side seems to want to cover Hillary and Obama’s ass.

Sad…but not surprising.

The most important testimony is the fact that the “Foreign Emergency Support Team” was ordered to stand down

Also, Gregory N. Hicks, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, was angry at the Susan Rice narrative, he let it be known that he was angry and was subsequently told to shut up.

What this all comes down to is that the United States was attacked and our ambassador and his protectors were denied help. Then the cover-up began.

And the cover-up is what always brings down the house of cards.

State Dept. Won’t Say Its Own Officials Set to Testify on Benghazi Are ‘Credible People’

(CNSNews.com) – When asked at a press briefing on Monday to say that two State Department officials set to testify in Congress on Wednesday about the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi are “credible people,” State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell would not do it.

The two officials are Greg Hicks, who was the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, and Mark Thompson, who was the deputy coordinator for operations in the department’s counter-terrorism division.

“Before we get to the specifics of what they’re expected to testify, I wonder if you could provide us with your assessment of the caliber of these two individuals,” James Rosen of Fox News asked Ventrell. “Are they credible? They’ve been working at fairly senior posts here and abroad for years and years. I wonder first what thoughts the Department has about the caliber of these two individuals.”

At the National Prayer Breakfast, broadcast live on C-SPAN2, Dr. Ben Carson said he didn’t want to “offend” anyone, but his words nonetheless were likely to have made one distinguished guest in attendance – President Barack Obama – squirm in his seat.

Carson is director of the pediatric neurosurgery division at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. His inspiring story of growing up the son of an illiterate, single black woman to becoming one of America’s most esteemed doctors has been detailed in the book “Gifted Hands” and the movie of the same name.

At Thursday’s prayer breakfast, Carson took aim at a number of topics that may have caused the man seated two chairs to his right a bit of indigestion, including class-warfare economics.

“Some people say, they say, ‘Well, that’s not fair because it doesn’t hurt the guy who made $10 billion as much as the guy who made 10,’” Carson said. “[But] where does it say you have to hurt the guy? He just put a billion dollars in the pot!

“We don’t need to hurt him,” Carson continued. “It’s that kind of thinking that has resulted in 602 banks in the Cayman Islands. That money needs to be back here, building our infrastructure and creating jobs.”

George Will: Obamacare’s death star?

Will: Obamacare's death star?

WASHINGTON — A willow, not an oak. So said conservatives of Chief Justice John Roberts when he rescued the Affordable Care Act — aka Obamacare — from being found unconstitutional. But the manner in which he did this may have made the ACA unworkable, thereby putting it on a path to ultimate extinction.

This plausible judgment comes from professor Thomas A. Lambert of the University of Missouri Law School, writing in Regulation quarterly, a publication of the libertarian Cato Institute. The crucial decision, he says, was four liberal justices joining Roberts’ opinion declaring that the ACA’s penalty for not complying with the mandate to purchase health insurance is actually a tax on not purchasing it. With this reasoning, the court severely limited the ability of the new health care regime to cope with its own predictable consequences.

TV Guide Hails Martha Raddatz as ‘Moderator of the Year,’ Slams Clint Eastwood, Bristol Palin

[Newsbusters.org]

By Tim Graham

Tim Graham's picture

TV Guide published a “Cheers and Jeers” issue to analyze “2012′s Best and Worst in TV.” When it came to political TV, the magazine made it quite clear that Obama’s re-election was a highlight, and conservative celebrities were only mentioned in “Jeers.”

Raddatz was hailed for “asking direct questions and keeping the candidates on point,” which does not describe her first question to Joe Biden on Benghazi. She noted the State Department now admitted there were no protests, but could ask Biden if the Benghazi attack was a “massive intelligence failure,” not a massive campaign of misleading the American people:

martha-raddatzCHEERS to ABC News’ [sic] Martha Raddatz for being moderator of the year. She took control of the vice-presidential debate with blunt forcefulness, asking direct questions and keeping the candidates on point, a marked contrast to Jim Lehrer’s passive style in the first presidential matchup. Can she do all the debates from now on?

The magazine sort of ruined that pro-substance argument by awarding “Jeers” to the “Today show train wreck” for letting go of Ann Curry, the woman who couldn’t locate Illinois on a map.

Clint Eastwood’s speech at the Republican convention – where someone thought his star power would eclipse the eloquence of his presentation – drew only jeers:

JEERS to the Eastwoods for not knowing when to stay off camera. Clint’s embarrassing and rambling diatribe to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention raised eyebrows, while wife Dina’s narcissistic celeb-reality show Mrs. Eastwood & Company provoked only yawns.

Voter Fraud A Real Threat to US

Washington, DC - In a just-released paper analyzing the Brennan Center for Justice`s role in minimizing the importance of election fraud across the nation, National Center for Public Policy Research Adjunct Fellow Horace Cooper concludes that the Brennan Center has not been telling the full story.

“Voter fraud and election mishaps in the U.S. are real, not isolated, problems, and notwithstanding the efforts of left-wing groups to minimize their impact, the American people are right to continue pushing their representatives for effective voter ID laws,” Cooper argues in “The Brennan Center is Wrong: Voter Fraud is a Real Threat to Every Citizen`s Constitutional Rights,” his latest National Policy Analysis paper on voter fraud.

“It is perfectly legal for the Brennan Center to take more than $7 million from socialist tycoon George Soros, but when you get that much support it says a lot about just how left-wing the Brennan Center is,” says Cooper.

Five ways the mainstream media tipped the scales in favor of Obama

[FoxNews.com]

Nov. 4, 2012: President Barack Obama speaks during a campaign event at McArthur High School in Hollywood, Fla. (AP)

Fox News and other media outlets have projected that President Obama has been reelected to a second term. If, in celebrating his victory Obama wanted to give credit where credit is due, he might want to think about calling some of America’s top journalists, since their favorable approach almost certainly made the difference between victory and defeat.

Reviewing the 2012 presidential campaign, here are five ways the media elite tipped the public relations scales in favor of the liberal Obama and against the conservative challenger Mitt Romney:

1. The Media’s Biased Gaffe Patrol Hammered Romney: The media unfairly jumped on inconsequential mistakes — or even invented controversies — from Romney and hyped them in to multi-day media “earthquakes.” Case in point: the GOP candidate’s trip to Europe and Israel in late July. A Media Research Center analysis of all 21 ABC, CBS and NBC evening news stories about Romney’s trip found that virtually all of them (18, or 86%) emphasized “diplomatic blunders,” “gaffes” or “missteps.”

U.S. Piled Up More Debt Since Election Day ’08 Than Under All Presidents From Washington Through Clinton

[CNSNews.com]

November 6, 2012

By Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) – The federal government has now piled up more debt since Election Day 2008 than it did under all presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton, according to official debt numbers published by the U.S. Treasury.

When the polls opened on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, the total debt of the U.S. government stood at $10,556,177,748,045.21 (the number it had reached by the close of business on Nov. 3, 2008). As of the close of business on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, the most recent day reported by the Treasury, the total debt of the U.S. government stood at $16,206,129,028,709.29.

What laser capability did Benghazi team have?

Has Libya attack become ‘politicized’?
Senior retired military officer wants answers on…

Sources who have debriefed the team that was at the CIA annex the night of the attack in Benghazi say that the CIA operators from the Global Response Staff, or GRS, were equipped with Mark 48 machine guns and had two types of laser capability. Each weapon had both a “passive” as well as a “visible” laser that could be used against the Libyan attackers.

The presence of laser capability on the roof of the CIA annex confirms what Fox News sources that night in Benghazi originally said, which is that they had laser capability and for 5 hours and 15 minutes were wondering where the usual overhead air support was, especially since, according to this source, they radioed from the annex beginning as early as midnight asking for it.

The presence of lasers raises more questions about why air support was not sent to Benghazi even protectively once it became clear that the fighting had followed the CIA rescue team back to the annex.

U.S. military officials say they “thought the fighting was over” after the team left the consulate and that there was a lull in the fighting.

Voter fraud monitors on high alert for Election Day

With Election Day polls set to open in mere hours, those monitoring the vote for fraud and funny business are already on high alert.

Late last month, the state of Florida raised flags after strange letters started to go out telling voters that their citizenship was being questioned and that voting could expose them to possible jail time.

Then in Ohio, Nevada and other battlegrounds, reports surfaced of voters trying to make their choice for president on touch-screen machines only to see the machine register a different candidate. Typically, they voted for Mitt Romney and the machine marked President Obama.

Among the latest allegations is that NAACP workers showed up at a polling site in Houston “electioneering” for Obama and refused to leave — though the NAACP adamantly denies it.

The incident was detailed by a poll watcher for the group True the Vote. In a written statement, monitor Eve Rockford claimed NAACP representatives arrived at the Houston site Friday afternoon “with probably 50 cases of bottled water” and began handing them out to voters.

Atlas Exclusive: Robert Spencer: Can We Survive Four More Years of Obama?

[AtlasShrugs.com]

Monday, November 5, 2012 – Pamela Geller

By Robert Spencer

Can America afford four more years of Barack Obama as President of the United States? In the most literal terms, probably not: his reckless deficit spending can’t be sustained indefinitely, and as he has campaigned on a platform of more free goodies for everyone, it won’t be much longer before the gravy train runs out. Meanwhile, his relentless class warfare rhetoric has sown the seeds of civil discord for years to come. But even worse could be in store for us if Obama is reelected.

Now that pro-Sharia Islamic supremacist regimes are installed, thanks to Barack Obama, in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya, the oppression of women and non-Muslims is certain to escalate in those countries. They are also certain only to grow in their anti-Americanism, and may try to unite in an attempt to restore the caliphate, which will only bring more bloodshed and strife to the region. And since the caliph is the only one authorized (and required) in Islamic law to wage offensive jihad against Infidels, if they succeed in choosing one, the result will not be happy for America and the West.

Romney rips Obama on ‘voting is the best revenge’ remark in new ad

[TheHill.com]

By Cameron Joseph – 11/03/12 10:02 AM ET

Watch the ad:

Mitt Romney’s campaign has released an ad attacking President Obama’s recent remarks that “voting is the best revenge,” a comment Romney has jumped on in his final days on the trail.

The ad features Obama’s remarks on the campaign trail — and Romney’s response from the stump.

After a crowd at an Obama rally on Friday booed Romney, the president cut in. “Don’t boo, vote. Vote. Voting is the best revenge,” he said.

Romney pounced on the remark. “Did you see what President Obama said today? He asked his supporters to vote for revenge,” he said. “Instead I ask the American people to vote for love of country.”

The campaign did not say where the ad is running, and it’s unclear where they’d be able to get it on the air before the election since few television stations book new commercial time on weekends.

Unemployment Rises to 7.9%, Payrolls Rise Sharply in October

U.S. employers stepped up hiring in October and the jobless rate ticked higher as more workers restarted job hunts, a hopeful sign for a lackluster economy that has dragged on President Barack Obama’s reelection chances.

Employers added 171,000 people to their payrolls last month, the Labor Department said on Friday. The government also said 84,000 more jobs were created in August and September than initially estimated.

The jobless rate edged a tenth of a point higher to 7.9 percent, but that was due to a surge of workers back into the workforce. Only people who have recently looked for a job can count as unemployed.

The employment data was the last major report card on the economy before Tuesday’s presidential election, which pits Obama against Republican Mitt Romney.

While the rise in the jobless rate was expected, the increase in payrolls beat even the most optimistic forecast in a Reuters poll.

State troopers have been deployed at all gas stations along the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, where dwindling gasoline supplies are causing frayed nerves as the region endures its third full day with massive power outages.

Frustration with gas supplies topped the list of issues causing tensions to boil over in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, the states hardest hit by power outages in the wake of superstorm Sandy. Residents jockeyed for fuel at the few stations still pumping, searched store shelves in vain for batteries, struggled with sporadic cell phone service and found themselves unable to buy necessities at supermarkets.

Johnson goes on to quote Einstein’s definition of insanity regarding the notion of Obama’s re-election.

Final NPR Poll: Romney Leads By One, Up Big With Independents

National polling is going to be tough to come by over the next few days, as pollsters will struggle to get remotely accurate samples from much of the Eastern seaboard.  Indeed, Gallup and a few other firms are suspending their tracking polls until the mess is cleared up.  For what it’s worth, Rasmussen’s tracker still has Obama locked in at 47 percent, with Romney ahead by two.  The Republican maintains a six-point advantage on the economy, and for the first time, fewer than 50 percent of voters think Obama will win re-election. Meanwhile, NPR has released its final national poll of the cycle, taken before the megastorm swamped the Northeast.  Its topline result is Romney 48, Obama 47 — but all other signs point to a more sizable Romney lead.  Let’s examine a few of the telling data points:

(1) Sample - The poll surveys 370 Democrats, 306 Republicans and 309 Independents, for a D/R/I of 37/31/31 (D+6).  After weighting, the sample is D+4.  Obama has a statistically insignificant lead in the “swing states” sub-section, which has a much larger margin of error, and clocks in at D+9.  For reasons explained here and here, both partisan splits seem unlikely to reflect this year’s electorate — to say nothing of this.

(2) Enthusiasm - Republicans are more likely than Democrats to rate this election as a “9″ or “10″ in terms of importance, suggesting an intensity gap.  Republicans outpace Democrats on the “10″ scale by ten points (76/66).  Eighty percent of GOP voters responded with either a 9 or 10, while 72 percent of Democrats did the same.

(3) Independents - Right track/wrong track: 30/64.  Obama job approval/disapproval: 42/54, and 39/60 on the economy.  On the head-to-head among indies, it’s Romney 51, Obama 39 — a twelve point lead for the GOP ticket.

Shock poll: Obama could lose Illinois, Romney leads in Chicago suburbs

President Barack Obama could lose his home state of Illinois in November, a new poll shows.

A poll conducted by Illinois-based pollster and political strategist Michael McKeon found Obama leading Republican Mitt Romney by 49 percent to 37 percent in Cook County, the home of Chicago. That puts him ahead by a far thinner margin than expected in a county he should be winning handsomely.

Cook is the most Democratic leaning county in the state. It is also the most populous.

Those numbers do not bode well for the president.

“He has to come out of Cook County with a big lead or he’s gonna have problems downstate,” explained McKeon, who said that based on the numbers he had seen, Obama polled only in the forties in downstate Illinois.

‘Politics of insult’ alive and well despite Obama’s 2008 lament

[FoxNews.com]

Published October 29, 2012

Four years ago, then-candidate Barack Obama decried what he described as [childish lies and] the politics of insult.”

“You don’t deserve a bunch of name-calling,” he told a Virginia crowd in the summer of 2008. “You don’t deserve a bunch of mudslinging.”

But lately, there have been more than a few insults flying on the 2012 campaign trail. Whether it’s with cute turns of phrase like “Romnesia” or more serious invective, the president’s campaign has gotten increasingly aggressive over the last few weeks in its denunciation of Mitt Romney.

The tone likely reflects the polls, which have been tightening ever since the Republican nominee’s opening debate performance. Whatever the reason, it’s evident that the “politics of insult” have not faded.

The following were overheard on the 2012 campaign trail:

“Bullsh–ter”

The president took a rip at Romney after a recent interview with Rolling Stone. In the article, published over the weekend, writer and historian Douglas Brinkley said that editor Eric Bates told the president that when he asked his six-year-old daughter if she wanted to say anything to Obama, she said: “Tell him: You can do it.”

Millions across East Coast brace for ‘Superstorm’ Sandy, while transit systems close and supplies fly off shelves

October Surprise? Is Sandy a ‘perfect storm’?

As Hurricane Sandy stayed on track to barrel the East Coast, states of emergency were declared from North Carolina to Connecticut, with residents being evacuated, schools and transit systems shut and food and supplies flying off store shelves in a sure sign people were preparing for the worst.

Sandy was at Category 1 strength, packing 75 mph winds, about 270 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and moving northeast at 14 mph as of 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was about 575 miles south of New York City.

The Hurricane is on path to meet a winter storm and a cold front, plus high tides from a full moon, and experts said the rare hybrid storm that results could cause havoc through 800 miles from the East Coast to the Great Lakes.

Officials raised the storm-related death toll across the Caribbean to 65, with 51 of those coming in Haiti, which was pelted by three days of constant rains that ended only on Friday.
