TAMPA, Fla. — Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice rallied the GOP faithful at the Republican National Convention with a barn-burner speech Wednesday night.

The only speaker of the convention thus far to take the podium without the assistance of a teleprompter, Rice spoke of the challenges facing the country, both foreign and domestic, and the need for a leader.

Commencing with an anecdote about the events of Sept. 11, 2001, Rice transitioned to the economic crisis and turmoil abroad. She pointed out that around the world people ask “Where does America stand?” only to find that the answer is ambiguous. To Rice, the country is in need of leadership.

“I know too that there is a weariness I know there is a sense that we have carried these burdens long enough,” she said, noting that the country has no other choice by to be a leader, because “either nobody will lead and there will be chaos or someone else will who does not share our values. We do not have a choice. We cannot be reluctant to lead — and you cannot lead from behind.” Rice asserted that Romney and Ryan are the ones who can lead.

Ryan on tap to deliver ‘hard truths’ in VP nomination speech

[FoxNews.com]

Published August 29, 2012

If Chris Christie lit a fire under Republicans last night, it’s now up to Paul Ryan to provide the fuel to keep it burning for what promises to be a hard-fought two-month battle to win the White House.

The Republican vice presidential candidate is teed up Wednesday to deliver the “hard truths” Christie talked about in his rousing keynote address on opening night. While Christie is known as the GOP fighter, Ryan is the point-man for budget-balancing solutions the party claims to represent.

The Wisconsin congressman has been quietly preparing his speech for days. Members of Ryan’s staff contacted by Fox News earlier this week said they couldn’t say precisely how long it would be, but that he has “teased” some of the ideas in it before.

Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, is best known for his controversial plans to overhaul Medicare and the tax system. They are likely the kinds of “hard truths” Christie raised Tuesday night, as the New Jersey governor claimed Mitt Romney and Ryan would lead a “new era of truth-telling” in Washington.

RNC Protester Arrested Carrying Machete

[Breitbart.com]

by Breitbart News – August 26, 2012

Police arrested a Tallahassee man protesting at the Republican National Convention for carrying a machete into the Event Zone.

According to authorities, Jason T. Wilson had a “full size” machete (pictured left) strapped to his leg at a Sunday protest.

When deputies approached Wilson, they said he continued to walk away despite orders to stop.

“When deputies caught up to Wilson, he advised he did not have to stop and that he was allowed to carry whatever he wanted,” HCSO spokesperson Larry McKinnon said.

When deputies attempted to physically stop him, Wilson allegedly began resisting arrest and was physically restrained.

The police have not connected Wilson to any particular organization or entity protesting at the RNC.

Although formally organized left-wing protesters promise “non-violent” tactics, they plan to disrupt businesses and not cooperate with police investigating other protesters who may damage property or harass private citizens. An anonymous individual threatened to “legitimately rape” conservative activists Brandon Darby and Lee Stranahan at the convention.

This week in Congress: Tax battles, Iran sanctions, GSA scandal

In August, Congress will still be locked in a partisan showdown on whether to renew Bush-era tax rates for all Americans, or just some of them.

The Senate last week passed Democratic tax legislation that conformed to President Barack Obama’s plan to extend the rates to only Americans making $250,000 or less per year; now the Republican-controlled House will have a chance to vote the bill down. Meanwhile, a House vote also is expected on its version of the extension, which continues the tax cuts for all income brackets.

Legislators also are hoping to finalize a new round of Iran sanctions that meets the approval of both houses. The sanctions legislation passed months ago in the House and Senate, but some are concerned that trade loopholes authorized by the Obama administration could keep the final package from winning House support.

House panel backs contempt for Holder, Issa says floor vote can still be avoided

[FoxNews.com]

Published June 20, 2012

NEXT STEP:  THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WILL VOTE FOR A RESOLUTION TO UPHOLD CONTEMPT CITATION; if upheld, CIVIL CRIMINAL PROCEDURES FOLLOW.

A House panel voted Wednesday in favor of holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, a move that inflamed partisan rancor on Capitol Hill and sets up the possibility of legal action against the attorney general himself.

Holder has not yet been formally held in contempt of Congress. The full House would still need to approve the resolution in order for that to happen — Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., afterward told Fox News that such a floor vote can still be avoided.

But the 23-17 party-line vote on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee marked a significant turn in lawmakers’ 16-month investigation into the botched anti-gunrunning operation Fast and Furious. With the vote, Republicans on the committee signaled they had exhausted all other means to extract sought-after documents from the Justice Department — though Democrats had insisted there was still an opportunity to sort out the mess without a contempt vote.

“We and the American people need answers sooner, not later,” said Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee.

June 8, 2012 – by Rebel Pundit

Breitbart News continues to receive new reports of potential voter fraud, ballot insecurity and unethical activity on behalf of the community-organized left in Racine, Wisconsin during the recall elections of June 5.

After a blowout victory for Governor Scott Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, state senator Van Wanggaard’s fate is still up in the air, as he currently trails his Democratic challenger, John Lehman.

However, as Breitbart News has previously reported, voting in Van Wanggaard’s district as marred by irregularities. Breitbart News has now discovered evidence that residents were enticed to vote in exchange for a free meal.

A Racine resident emailed the following .pdf document showing that residents were invited to the Changing Lives Ministry for a breakfast last Friday morning prior to Election Day–and then provided buses to and from City Hall to cast early ballots.

Gov. Scott Walker Challenger Runs From Obama

Tom Barrett, Scott Walker’s challenger in the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election, told CNN this morning that he didn’t ask President Obama to stop by the state to rally Democrats in his support. “We understand he’s got a lot going on,” said Barrett.

Barrett was clearly afraid of being associated with President Obama or the national political scene: “I want to make sure that everybody understands this is about Wisconsin values. It’s not about Washington, D.C. It’s about right here, who is going to control the future of this state? Will it be tea party, the national right wing? Or is it going to be the state of Wisconsin, and I’m putting my money on the people of the state of Wisconsin.”

Ed’s Obsession: Anti-Scott Walker Guests Dominate The Ed Show by 237 to 1

From February 14, 2011 through May 18, 2012 anti-Walker guests dominated by a count of 237 (99.6%) to 1 (less than .5%). In that same span Schultz devoted a portion or a majority of 128 episodes to attacks on Walker.
Tuesday’s recall election in Wisconsin marks the end point of MSNBC’s Ed Schultz’s 15 month-long mission to destroy Scott Walker. The conservative Republican governor’s attempt to fix that state’s budget crisis, by reigning in the public unions’ influence, sent Schultz on a rampage. The liberal talk show host turned his self-titled program, The Ed Show, into a hyper-partisan platform from which union activists, liberal journalists and Wisconsin state Democrats could join Schultz in his drive to oust the “radical” Walker out office.

GOP Senators renew plea to avoid ‘devastating’ defense cuts

March 30, 2012
Before departing for a two-week Easter recess Thursday, Republican senators renewed a plea for bipartisan collaboration to avoid a round of crippling budget cuts to the Defense Department.

Under an agreement reached last year by legislators on both sides of the aisle, automatic budget cuts to the Defense Department could reduce its funding by $500 billion over the next 10 years–on top of the $487 billion the department has already been ordered to find and slash. The cuts, which Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has repeatedly called a “meat ax,” would take effect on Jan. 1 and would create particularly dire financial straits for the department in Fiscal 2013.

Other federal departments, including Education, are expected to take a budget hit under this Budget Control Act requirement, called sequestration, but DoD has received most of the attention on the issue, as it is slated to absorb half of the cuts.

Two weeks ago, Fox News reported that President Obama held statistically significant leads over his possible Republican opponents in a series of swing state polls.  Today, hope and change:

In the poll, Obama lags the two leading Republican rivals in the 12 states likely to determine the outcome of a close race in November:

•Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum tops Obama 50%-45% in the swing states. Nationwide, Santorum’s lead narrows to 49%-46%.

•Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney edges Obama 48%-46% in the swing states. Nationwide, they are tied at 47% each.

The battleground states surveyed include Michigan — where Tuesday’s primary has become a critical showdown between Romney and Santorum — as well as Ohio and Virginia, which vote next week on Super Tuesday. The other swing states are Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Obamacare Mandate says Pregnancy is a Disease [Reader Post]

[FloppingAces.net]

By:
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:00 am

Once Barack Obama said that babies were a punishment:

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.

But now we learn that in Obamacare, pregnancy is not simply a punishment, it is a disease.

Covering contraception is cost neutral since it saves money by keeping women healthy and preventing spending on other health services,”

Preventing this “disease” is supposed to save big money.

Democratic chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “[Contraception costs] about $700 a year. That’s real money.”

Typical of democrats, something is provided for “free” at someone else’s cost.

Privately, however, insurers say there’s nothing “free” about preventing unwarranted pregnancies. They say the mandate also covers costly surgical sterilization procedures, and that in any case even the pill has up-front costs.

“Saying it’s revenue-neutral doesn’t mean it’s free and that you’re not paying for it,” an industry source told The Hill.

Doctors still have to be paid to prescribe the pill, drugmakers and pharmacists have to be paid to provide it – and all that money has to come from insurance premiums, not future hypothetical savings, the source said.

Media Matters enjoyed a surge in fundraising after the start of the Obama administration — nearly doubling its revenues in the first two years of the president’s administration, according to tax returns obtained by The Daily Caller.

The Daily Caller found that Media Matters and its lobbying arm Media Matters Action Network raked in $14.6 million in 2010, compared with $8.1 million in 2009.

The nonprofit organization, whose tax-exempt status has been questioned by several lawmakers curious about its political activities, saw its fundraising on the rise, according to the latest available returns, even though about half of the groups earnings in 2010 came from just 21 donors, including two unidentified contributors who gave more than $1 million apiece.

Wisconsin Election Officials Reverse Course, Refuse to Make Recall Petitions Public

AMERICA, THIS IS MEGA-CORRUPTION!

Here’s an idea from the misnamed Wisconsin Government Accountability Board: Let’s make the attempt to recall Governor Scott Walker even nuttier.

On Monday morning the Wisconsin ‘Elections Watchdogs’ alerted media that the Walker recall petitions would be available sometime later that day. By dinnner time, they basically said, never mind.

You can’t make this stuff up.

From our coverage:

Stunner: Walker Recall Petitions NOT Available for Online Review

[Madison, Wisc…] The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board has not posted scanned copies of the Governor Walker recall petitions online despite promises to the citizens of Wisconsin that they would do so.

GAB staff delivered copies of the scans to the Governor’s campaign late last week. The campaign, with the assistance of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, began reviewing the petitions at satellite offices across the state this weekend.

FINALLY, AN ACTUAL COURT HEARING ON OBAMA’S ELIGIBILITY TO BE PRESIDENT: It didn’t go well for Barack

[LibertyNewsOnline.com]

Posted: January 30, 2012

By Joseph Farah – WorldNetDaily.com

For four long years, compelling evidence has been available that challenges the constitutional eligibility of Barack Obama to occupy the White House.

In fact, I would say the evidence that he does not meet the simple requirements of the law is overwhelming. But it was not until Thursday that the evidence – any of it – was heard in a single courtroom in America.

Not until very recently has any of it been examined by any official public proceeding or reviewed by any agency of government.

They say the wheels of justice grind slowly, but this is ridiculous.

The good news for the rule of law is what happened in a Georgia courtroom this week and what is happening in the office of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. Justice may yet prevail.

Obama Asks Congress to Lift Debt Ceiling by Another $1.2 Trillion

[CNSNews.com]

(CNSNews.com) – President Obama has sent a letter to Congress saying that the government is within $100 billion of its $15.2 trillion debt ceiling and that it must be raised immediately.

“I hereby certify that the debt subject to limit is within $100,000,000,000 of the limit in 31 U.S.C. 3101(b) and that further borrowing is required to meet existing commitment,” the letter states.

Now that Obama has sent the letter, Congress has 15 days to pass a resolution of disapproval or the debt ceiling will rise automatically by $1.2 trillion, according to the terms of the August debt ceiling compromise.

When the August deal was cut between Republicans, Democrats, and the White House, the debt ceiling was immediately raised $400 billion and then another $500 billion in October.  Now it is expected to be raised at least $1.2 trillion more.

Prior to the August deal, the largest increase in the debt limit was the $1.9 trillion increase passed by Congress and signed by President Obama on Feb. 12, 2010. That law increased the debt limit from $12.394 trillion to $14.294 trillion.

Holder Math Part 2: DOJ Lays Trap to Misrepresent South Carolina Voter Data

Lee Stranahan

by Lee Stranahan

To understand the truly obscene nature of the fraud perpetrated by Obama’s Justice Department on the state of South Carolina, you need to see the statistical trap that they’ve laid out. The DOJ is well aware that the numbers they are basing their decision about South Carolina’s voter ID laws on are incorrect. By establishing the “Holder Math” standard that I described in part one of this series, when the correct numbers are acknowledged, the DOJ will be able to dishonestly claim the situation is actually even worse than before.

AP Photo

The Obama DOJ Ignores South Carolina’s Correct Data

First, let’s look at the data that the DOJ knows is incorrect.

The figures that the DOJ is basing their conclusion on was based on an initial report from South Carolina that 239,000 people were both registered voters and didn’t have DMV-issued ID. The breakdown is that 10% of black registered voters and 8.4% of white voters don’t have that type of ID. Even at a cursory glance, those numbers seem high. That’s the ID you use to open a bank account, buy a beer, board an airplane or 100 other things.

Apparently South Carolina thought that the numbers seemed off, too. According to this eye-opening interview with South Carolina’s Attorney General Wilson, the state did an audit and found that from that group of 239,000 included 37,000 people who were deceased, 96,000 who had moved to other states, and other discrepancies.

Wilson claims that the actual number of people without DMV-issued ID is actually about 27,000.  (It should be mentioned here as an aside that South Carolina has made extensive provisions for those people who don’t have ID, including being able to get the ID free and even offering free rides). The Obama DOJ was informed about this other data and intentionally rushed through a decision based on the faulty data, another  indication of their political agenda.

U.S. Public Schools Turn to Digital Education

NEW YORK — In a radical rethinking of what it means to go to school, states and districts nationwide are launching online public schools that let students from kindergarten to 12th grade take some — or all — of their classes from their bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens. Other states and districts are bringing students into brick-and-mortar schools for instruction that is largely computer-based and self-directed.

Nationwide, an estimated 250,000 students are enrolled in full-time virtual schools, up 40 percent in the last three years, according to Evergreen Education Group, a consulting firm that works with online schools. More than two million pupils take at least one class online, according to the International Association for K-12 Online Learning, a trade group.

Santorum, Gingrich, Bachmann and Huntsman Vow Boycott of Nevada Over Primary Calendar Standoff

[FoxNews.com]

by Fox News | October 13, 2011

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann have joined former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in pledging to boycott the Nevada caucuses because the state is daring New Hampshire to consider scheduling its first-in-the-nation primary in December.

The pledge was prompted by New Hampshire activists upset over Nevada for scheduling its caucus on Jan. 14, earlier than New Hampshire’s planned primary, traditionally the first in the nation. New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner wants Nevada to move its primary back.

“Nevada’s move has potentially forced the other early states to have primary’s near Christmas – and that destroys the primary process,” Santorum said. “I firmly believe that we must protect New Hampshire, the other early primary states and the proven presidential primary process.

“To be clear, I will not campaign in Nevada nor participate in the Nevada caucus if it doesn’t move its primary date.”

Gingrich made a similar pledge earlier.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a bill Monday that would have allowed guns on parts of public college campuses, a bill that she said likely faced a legal challenge.

“The bill was just poorly, sloppily written” Brewer told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “The legislation should have been crystal clear.”

Brewer said in a written statement announcing the veto that the bill didn’t adequately define the “public right of way” where guns could be carried on public university and community college campuses, and gun laws must be “crystal clear so that gun owners don’t become lawbreakers by accident.”

The position makes him the de facto congressional watchdog for the administration, this time with subpoena power.

Fed To Pump Billions Into The Economy In A Bid To Stimulate Demand

PersonalLiberty.com

November 10, 2010 by Personal Liberty News Desk

Fed to pump billions into the economy in a bid to stimulate demandThe Federal Reserve announced on Nov. 3 that it will buy long-term Treasury bonds over the next several months in order to stimulate the faltering economy.

The central bank hopes that pumping as much as $600 billion — but potentially even more than that — into the economy will increase the pace of output recovery and job creation. The general consensus has it that the previous rounds of monetary loosening in the form of interest rate cuts have failed to do the job. The rates are now close to zero.

However, not everyone shares the Fed’s belief that the move will resuscitate the economy. In fact, some people have expressed concerns about the possibility of a runaway inflation that may result from flooding the market with excess money.

Paul Ashworth, senior U.S. economist with Capitol Economics, told CNN that he didn’t believe the decision will make any difference at all.

“This is a slippery slope. Once you’re on it, it’s very hard to get off,” he added.

In response to the announcement, the stock market had a choppy session on Nov. 3, followed by an early rally on Nov. 4, further underscoring the nation’s economic and financial volatility.

Due to these persistent uncertainties, some experts have suggested buying gold as way to protect assets from depreciation.
