Mile-wide Tornado Churns Across Oklahoma City Suburbs

A huge tornado touched down on Monday near Oklahoma City, and the National Weather Service urged residents to immediately take cover as a massive storm system in the middle of the country threatened to pummel as many as 10 states. “The tornado on the ground right now is huge and has hit through populated areas,” Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said on CNN. She said it was too early to know the extent of the damage, but live television showed extensive destruction in the area.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths from the tornado, which was near Moore, Oklahoma, in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brynn Kerr said a tornado warning had been issued for two counties in central Oklahoma. A warning means that residents should immediately find shelter.

Finally: 56 Days Later, ABC Ends Blackout and Covers Gosnell ‘House of Horrors’

[Newsbusters.org]

By Scott Whitlock | May 13, 2013 | 18:56

ABC-WN-sawyer-gosnell-370Fifty six days after the grisly trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell began, ABC broke its self-imposed blackout and finally offered coverage. World News anchor Diane Sawyer belatedly told viewers that Gosnell was convicted on three counts of first degree murder against newborn babies, as well as on a slew of other charges. Terry Moran explained, “For two months, jurors heard often shocking, grisly testimony.” He described the details as a “house of horrors.” A house of horrors that ABC took 56 days to notice.

As the Media Research Center has aggressively documented, ABC went from March 18, 2013 (the trial’s start) through Monday afternoon with no coverage. Yet, during the same time, the network devoted a staggering 187 minutes (or 70 segments) to other shocking criminal cases, such as Jodi Arias and Amanda Knox.

Moran noted that “Opponents of legalized abortion seized on this case.” The journalist quoted Jeanneane Maxon, the vice president of Americans United for Life. She asserted, “Well, Gosnell’s not an aberration. Abortion clinics are unregulated and every year we see the deaths of women inside these clinics.”

Nightline’s Moran first highlighted the Gosnell case on Twitter, way back on April 12. But he has failed to cover the story until now.

‘Obamacare’ Poll Finds 42% of Americans Unaware It’s Law

[ABCNews.com]

Apr 30, 2013 4:03pm
ObamaCareSymbol-with-soviet-sickleA new poll finds that many Americans are confused about the health care overhaul legislation commonly called “Obamacare.  ”The Kaiser Family Foundation released results of a non-partisan study today finding more than 40 percent did not even know the law was in place.

“Four in ten Americans (42%) are unaware that the ACA [Affordable Care Act] is still the law of the land,” the report says, “including 12 percent who believe the law has been repealed by Congress, 7 percent who believe it has been overturned by the Supreme Court and 23 percent who say they don’t know enough to say what the status of the law is.”

The survey showed public opinion on Obamacare is at its second-lowest rating in the past two years. Less than half – 40 percent – of adults viewed the ACA favorably, whereas 35 percent said they viewed it unfavorably.  Another 24 percent said they did not know or refused to answer.

Atlas Exclusive: Robert Spencer: Can We Survive Four More Years of Obama?

[AtlasShrugs.com]

Monday, November 5, 2012 – Pamela Geller

By Robert Spencer

Can America afford four more years of Barack Obama as President of the United States? In the most literal terms, probably not: his reckless deficit spending can’t be sustained indefinitely, and as he has campaigned on a platform of more free goodies for everyone, it won’t be much longer before the gravy train runs out. Meanwhile, his relentless class warfare rhetoric has sown the seeds of civil discord for years to come. But even worse could be in store for us if Obama is reelected.

Now that pro-Sharia Islamic supremacist regimes are installed, thanks to Barack Obama, in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya, the oppression of women and non-Muslims is certain to escalate in those countries. They are also certain only to grow in their anti-Americanism, and may try to unite in an attempt to restore the caliphate, which will only bring more bloodshed and strife to the region. And since the caliph is the only one authorized (and required) in Islamic law to wage offensive jihad against Infidels, if they succeed in choosing one, the result will not be happy for America and the West.

Millions across East Coast brace for ‘Superstorm’ Sandy, while transit systems close and supplies fly off shelves

[FoxNews.com]

Associated Press

Published October 28, 2012

October Surprise? Is Sandy a ‘perfect storm’?

As Hurricane Sandy stayed on track to barrel the East Coast, states of emergency were declared from North Carolina to Connecticut, with residents being evacuated, schools and transit systems shut and food and supplies flying off store shelves in a sure sign people were preparing for the worst.

Sandy was at Category 1 strength, packing 75 mph winds, about 270 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and moving northeast at 14 mph as of 2 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was about 575 miles south of New York City.

The Hurricane is on path to meet a winter storm and a cold front, plus high tides from a full moon, and experts said the rare hybrid storm that results could cause havoc through 800 miles from the East Coast to the Great Lakes.

Officials raised the storm-related death toll across the Caribbean to 65, with 51 of those coming in Haiti, which was pelted by three days of constant rains that ended only on Friday.

Here Are 11 Incredible Pictures From Sunday’s Edge-of-Space Skydive

[TheBlaze.com]

Felix Baumgartner Red Bull Stratos Skydive

For months TheBlaze has been talking about Felix Baumgartner and his anticipated, record-breaking skydive from the edges of space, for which he has been preparing himself for the last five years. After the stratosphere jump was delayed due to weather concerns in the New Mexico last week, Baumgartner successfully (and safely) took on the challenge Sunday.

Here is the stats breakdown of his Red Bull Stratos project jump and accomplishments:

  • Jump Height: 128,100 feet (24.26 miles; the Karman Line, which is usually used as the boundary between Earth and space, lies at 62 miles above sea level)
  • Time Free Falling: 4:20 minutes
  • Distance in Free Fall: 119,846 feet (22.7 miles)
  • Top Speed: Mach 1.24 (faster than the speed of sound)
  • Records:
      Highest jump
    Fastest ever free fall
    Highest manned balloon flight

Although the numbers are impressive, the pictures show the what the stats simply can’t. Here are some of the best images:

Obama to Campaign as Hurricane Hammers Gulf Coast

[Breitbart.com]

by John Nolte

Posted:  August 28, 2012

There’s a bubbling narrative in the media right now that’s spreading a poison by asking if it’s really appropriate for Romney to even hold his convention as Hurricane Isaac heads towards New Orleans. The ever so thoughtful among Obama’s Media Palace Guards are concern-trolling themselves into a lather as they beard-scratch over the “unfortunate” optics of a partisan party as our fellow American are pummeled by Isaac.

That’s right, Obama’s media shills are all but saying that Romney needs to cancel his coming out party that has been in the planning for over a year now because he might get a bounce that forever puts him ahead of Their Precious One it might politically hurt…Romney — and we wouldn’t want that now, would we?

This is the Media-Collective quietly laying a Narrative Track that will allow them to question the wisdom and heart of the GOP as their convention rolls on. It’s a political tactic; nothing more, nothing less.

Nowhere, however, is the media at all worked up or even calling attention to the fact that yesterday – long after we knew Isaac could be a terrible storm — Obama announced his intention to still hold campaign rallies in Iowa, Colorado, and Virginia over today and tomorrow.

Chick-fil-A spokesman dies amid furor over same-sex marriage

The chief spokesman for Chick-fil A died early today amid the furor sparked by his boss’ biblical opposition to same-sex marriage.

The Georgia-based fast-food giant did not cite a cause of death for 60-year-old Don Perry, vice president of public relations, but local news reports said he died of a heart attack, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says. He had worked for the fast-food giant for 29 years.

“Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years,” the company said in a statement. “For many of you in the media, he was the spokesperson for Chick-fil-A. He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Valour-IT 2012 — Saluting all United States Military Personnel; Happy 4th of July!

[FloppingAces.net]

By:
Posted:  July 4, 2012

As America celebrates her independence, Soldiers’ Angels Project Valour-IT is fighting to save a program that gives a bit of independence to severely-wounded veterans.

In the last seven years, Project Valour-IT has supplied over 6,000 voice-controlled and other adaptive laptops to severely wounded American troops, but that work could soon come to an end. Every week brings more wounded heroes home from the battlefield, but donations are not keeping pace with their needs. Over 70 wounded warriors are currently waiting for a Valour-IT laptop, with 10 new requests coming in each week.

To address this growing need, military support nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels is conducting a summer-long fundraising drive. The goal is to provide 250 more laptops to help wounded warriors stay connected while they recover or build a new life as they transition out of the military.

From July 4 through Labor Day, patriotic Americans across the country are donating and spreading the word through Social Media and good-old-fashioned word of mouth. Divided among four “virtual teams” named in honor of U.S. military service branches, they are relying on friendly inter-service rivalries to spur them on to at least $100,000 in fundraising.

It’s hard to overstate the impact Project Valour-IT has on those wounded warriors lucky enough to receive a laptop. “This project changes lives,” says Soldiers’ Angels Founder Patti Patton-Bader. “Major Chuck  Ziegenfuss, whose experience as a wounded Soldier inspired the project says receiving a voice-controlled laptop said it was ‘the first time I felt whole. ‘”

Mayor Bloomberg’s Sweet Sugary Nanny State

[Cato@Liberty]

Posted by David Boaz – May 31, 2012

“A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down,” sang a legendary nanny. But today’s most powerful nanny, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, won’t tolerate that. He plans to ban the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters, and even street carts, the New York Times reports.

Mayor Bloomberg has lots of facts at his fingertips: Many Americans are overweight. Consumption of sugar can cause weight gain. All true, and a good reason for Mike Bloomberg to watch his diet.

But why should he watch MY diet? And the diets of 8 million New Yorkers, most of them adults? If he thinks New Yorkers should consume less sugar, let him hold a press conference. But giving people information isn’t good enough for him. Sometimes he gives people information, and they still don’t act the way he thinks they should. So what’s a billionaire mayor to do? He could bribe them, I suppose. But as Otter said, that could take years and cost millions of lives. Well, millions of dollars anyway. So, like Otter, he’s decided to go with “a really futile and stupid gesture” instead.

dronesThe federal government is moving quickly to open the skies over America to drones – both for commercial and government purposes – and respected Washington Post and Fox News commentator Charles Krauthammer is forecasting “rifles aimed at the sky all across America.”

The comments from Krauthammer, who won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1987 after serving as a speechwriter for Vice President Walter Mondale and then beginning his journalism career at The New Republic, were on “Special Report” with Bret Baier.

“I would predict, I’m not encouraging, but I predict the first guy who uses a Second Amendment weapon to bring a drone down that’s been hovering over his house is going to be a folk hero in this country,” Krauthammer said. The conversation arose as the federal government announced it is beginning to allow public safety agencies to fly unmanned aircraft – drones – with fewer and fewer restrictions.

According to yesterday’s report from Bloomberg, police, fire and other government agencies now are being allowed to fly drones weighing as much as 25 pounds without special approvals previously needed.

U.S. MILITARY RELEASES RESULTS OF 13,000 MPH AIRCRAFT TEST FLIGHT OVER THE PACIFIC OCEAN

[LibertyNewsOnline.com]

By: W.J. Hennigan – Los Angeles Times
Posted: April 24, 2012

The results are in from last summer’s attempt to test new technology that would provide the Pentagon with a lightning-fast vehicle, capable of delivering a military strike anywhere in the world in less than an hour.

In August the Pentagon’s research arm, known as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, carried out a test flight of an experimental aircraft capable of traveling at 20 times the speed of sound.

The arrowhead-shaped unmanned aircraft, dubbed Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2, blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base, northwest of Santa Barbara, into the upper reaches of the Earth’s atmosphere aboard an eight-story Minotaur IV rocket made by Orbital Sciences Corp.

After reaching an undisclosed altitude, the aircraft jettisoned from its protective cover atop the rocket, then nose-dived back toward Earth, leveled out and glided above the Pacific at 20 times the speed of sound, or Mach 20.

The plan was for the Falcon to speed westward for about 30 minutes before plunging into the ocean near Kwajalein Atoll, about 4,000 miles from Vandenberg.

How Pro-Life Organizations Keep Abortion Legal

[Secular Morality - WordPress]

By Ethan Hill [secularjustice.wordpress.com]
Posted: April 07, 2012

Let me begin by stating that I am, in fact, a pro-life atheist. Unfortunately I am not an experienced medical doctor and must rely on others’ research to determine whether I am for or against abortion. My lack of medical knowledge is, however, something I challenge through openness to the opinions of more qualified individuals. It is difficult to take any Pro-Life organizations opposition to abortion as a valid point when the organization identifies itself as fulfilling the work of God. Abortion should not be ruled immoral because a Deity declared it to be. If a secularist wants to be part of a pro-life organization, where does he turn? Certainly not to creationist groups, who contend that birth-control contributes to the massive amount of abortions performed in the United States every year. Perhaps you stumble upon a moving video (Graphic content) that exposes the truth about how horrific abortions can be, only to realize you cannot support their organization because they are anti-birth control.

‘Born Alive’ and ‘Partial Birth Abortion’ Barry [Barack] Beckons!

Original Reader Post by: mlajorie2

[Editor:  This story is from an archive by Conservative Viewpoint (GDMP.net), our original website name.  It was posted directly from: http://www.floppingaces.netToday, Rush Limbaugh brought up a Politico posting in which Newt Gingrich was misquoted as bringing up the issue of "partial birth abortion" when, in fact, Newt had brought up an issue for which Barack Obama supported when he was Illinois State senator.  The issue that the Speaker brought up was 'infanticide' which has been deemed by some as post birth baby killing by a physician when a baby is born alive after a botched abortion.]

[INFANTICIDE] Caution: The graphic herein may be disturbing to some; Obama supports this!

Posted by: mlajoie2 @ 12:32 pm August 7, 2008

Vote for McCain-Palin, Nov 4th!We are being told that the Obama campaign plans to make a play for the Catholic vote. His margins among them are plummeting. An article by John M. Broder in the New York Times grapples anxiously with the problem. What can Obama do now? Maybe, as a [token] act of atonement, they can allow the younger Robert Casey to address the convention? (For those who don’t remember, Robert Casey Sr., governor of Pennsylvania was NOT allowed to address the convention, because he was pro-life. A lot of Catholics have not forgotten.)

The article even dares to broach the reason for the precipitous drop. In my mind, that can hardly be a question. Barack Obama has the most radical pro-abortion position in Presidential election history and the word is getting out.

How radical is it? Well for one thing, He opposed a ban on the killing of fetuses born alive during abortion in Illinois. Yes, you read that right. (This was started by the experience of a traumatized abortion nurse who was not even allowed to hold a surviving child, but instructed to put ‘it’ in the trash.) From Broder’s article, this was his rationale:

Mr. Obama has said he had opposed the bill because it was poorly drafted and would have threatened the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade that established abortion as a constitutional right. He said he would have voted for a similar bill that passed the United States Senate because it did not have the same constitutional flaw as the Illinois bill.

Obamacare Mandate says Pregnancy is a Disease [Reader Post]

[FloppingAces.net]

By:
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:00 am

Once Barack Obama said that babies were a punishment:

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.

But now we learn that in Obamacare, pregnancy is not simply a punishment, it is a disease.

Covering contraception is cost neutral since it saves money by keeping women healthy and preventing spending on other health services,”

Preventing this “disease” is supposed to save big money.

Democratic chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “[Contraception costs] about $700 a year. That’s real money.”

Typical of democrats, something is provided for “free” at someone else’s cost.

Privately, however, insurers say there’s nothing “free” about preventing unwarranted pregnancies. They say the mandate also covers costly surgical sterilization procedures, and that in any case even the pill has up-front costs.

“Saying it’s revenue-neutral doesn’t mean it’s free and that you’re not paying for it,” an industry source told The Hill.

Doctors still have to be paid to prescribe the pill, drugmakers and pharmacists have to be paid to provide it – and all that money has to come from insurance premiums, not future hypothetical savings, the source said.

Google’s New Plan: Annoy You Into Compliance

[Gizmodo.com]

Posted: January 28, 2012

Google Plus users just got a pretty horrible new feature: search your name, and instead of finding out information about yourself, you’re asked to provide it. Quite simply, Google doesn’t want to give you information until you give it information. Guh.

As Drew Olanoff of The Next Web noted today, if you are using Google’s new Search Plus your World (which is on by default) instead of giving you the results you are looking for, a Google vanity search now prompts you to fill out the remainder of your Google Plus profile. It’s a clear example of Google prioritizing Plus over Search. It’s essentially allowing a social network to hijack your Search screen until you feed it personal data. Your normal results appear below the nag, but when I tried this myself, the prompt took over the entire window of my 13″ screen. Google is increasingly acting like an overbearing second grade teacher. If you don’t share, you can’t have any for yourself.

So what happens if you do try to “complete your profile?” Mine was nearly complete, at 85 percent. I filled out my university information and added a photo to my “scrapbook” (related: what the hell is my scrapbook and who can see it?) which were the only two missing fields in the “Update your profile” window. But that only took me to 95 percent. I tried editing my profile directly from within Google Plus itself, dutifully filling out each and every field, including the really intrusive stuff like my relationship status and “who are you looking for?” (I’m just looking for myself!)

I’m still only at 95 percent. I have no idea what I need to do to get to 100. Maybe it’s some philosophical lesson that represents the fundamental loneliness of the human condition by never allowing you to reach completion. I have no idea.

Why I am pro-life

[FrontPorchPolitics.com]

Written on January 23, 2012 at 7:11 am by

AZ-5.David Schweikert

The year was 1962, and in Southern California, a pregnant teenager was facing a difficult decision. As a young, unwed girl, Mary Lynn Sheridan wasn’t sure she was ready for a child. How would she tell her family?

If she was going to keep the baby, how would she care for it?  She drove with two friends to an abortion clinic over the Mexican border.

However, while on the drive to the clinic, Mary Lynn had a change of heart. The young mother decided against the plan, and sometime later gave birth to a healthy baby boy at an unwed mother’s home in Los Angeles. She gave the baby up for adoption. Six weeks later, a wonderful couple brought him home and into a loving family.

Thirty-six years later, that boy, through an accident, found the contact information for his birth mother. After a family discussion, he sent a handwritten note to Mary Lynn Sheridan. After 10 days, he received a joyful call from Mary Lynn, and through the tears, she managed to ask how he was doing and if he was healthy.

She told him about the hope and pain she felt every year on his birthday and that she prayed for him daily.

Newt Kicks Some CNN Butt! [Video and Updates]

[FloppingAces.net]

By: on January 21, 2012

We  all knew this was coming but I have to agree with his indignation….the very first question?
He makes wonderful points while kicking some ass and then completely denies the allegation of the open marriage.
CNN SHOULD NOT HAVE PULLED THIS VIDEO!  THEY’RE FULL OF MEDIA BIAS.

He also released his tax returns in a not too subtle dig at Mitt.

We all knew Newt was going down without a fight.

UPDATE

Great post on Newt:

…CNN’s John King opened the Charleston debate with a direct question to Gingrich about his past. “Do you want to take a moment to address that?” King asked.

“No, but I will,” Gingrich replied. And he wound up his ire and spent the next few minutes pulverizing the media for digging into his past on the eve of the South Carolina primary. When King tried to deflect Gingrich’s wrath back off onto ABC, Gingrich would have none of it: King has brought up the issue in the debate, after all. King looked visibly cowed.
