[FoxNews.com] A House committee voted Thursday to hold Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress, as Republicans escalated their bid to “get to the bottom” of the former IRS official’s role in the political targeting scandal. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted 21-12 to hold Lerner in contempt. The party-line vote followed hours of heated debate on the committee. Continue reading

[TheGatewayPundit.com] At today’s hearing on Capitol Hill, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) grilled Kathleen Sebelius for lying to the public about how Americans can keep their current health care plan under Obamacare and told her it is “impossible to do something in [the Obama] administration that gets you fired” Continue reading

Make It Hurt? Republicans accuse administration of inflicting added budget pain

[FoxNews.com] Is the Obama administration employing a make-it-hurt strategy to gain political leverage in the budget battle on Capitol Hill? Republicans are making that charge as the stalemate drags on, and point to the Pentagon furlough of 400,000 civilian staffers — even though Congress passed and the president signed a bill to supposedly keep them on the job. Continue reading

Hillary Speaks on Syria

[HotAir.com] Until now, Hillary Clinton has remained mighty quiet on Syria. As Secretary of State, she described Bashar al-Assad as a “reformer,” but now her successor has begun comparing Assad to Adolf Hitler. That silence will apparently end today, if Politico’s sources within Hillary’s camp are accurate:… Continue reading

As all signs point to Syria strike, some question US endgame

[FoxNews.com] The rumblings on Capitol Hill are starting to get louder as to whether the Obama administration has a clear endgame for a military strike on Syria, as the likelihood increases of such a strike in response to last week’s alleged chemical weapons attack. Until now, President Obama and his closest advisers took a risk-averse approach to Syria. They saw the situation as too combustible, the opposition as too fragmented and weak, to get involved. Even today, the White House argues that the purpose of intervention is not regime change. Continue reading

Fundraising push from Sebelius draws scrutiny from key GOP senator

(FoxNews-AP) Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ recent push to encourage health care executives and nonprofit organizations to make donations to organizations working to implement ObamaCare is drawing criticism from a key Senate Republican who questions whether she has a conflict of interest. HHS spokesman Jason Young confirms that Sebelius in recent weeks has asked various charitable foundations, businesses executives, churches and doctors to make financial contributions to nonprofit organizations, such as Enroll America, that are helping to implement President Obama’s health care overhaul. House panel backs contempt for Holder, Issa says floor vote can still be avoided

[FoxNews.com] A House panel voted Wednesday in favor of holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, a move that inflamed partisan rancor on Capitol Hill and sets up the possibility of legal action against the attorney general himself. Holder has not yet been formally held in contempt of Congress. The full House would still need to approve the resolution in order for that to happen — Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., afterward told Fox News that such a floor vote can still be avoided. Continue reading

Gingrich: Increasingly Arrogant Judiciary, Considers Capitol Police to Arrest Activist Judges

AP – Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich again blasted the judicial branch of the U.S. government Sunday and said he would be willing to send Capitol Hill police or U.S. Marshals to arrest judges and haul them before a congressional hearing.

Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation,“ Gingrich said there is a ”fundamental assault on our liberties by the courts.” He defended his previously stated position that the president and Congress should have the authority to ignore court rulings they disagree with, and that in the case of extremely controversial decisions, lawmakers should have the power to subpoena activist judges and have them defend their rulings. FBI supervisors angered over plan to extend Mueller term

This does put a new light on the proposal. If Mueller has been forcing supervisors to honor a form of a term limit by either taking less pay or retiring, then it makes little sense to extend to Mueller a courtesy that Mueller doesn’t himself extend. The aim of the Obama proposal — to keep Mueller’s expertise in harness while making changes elsewhere — would almost certainly apply to areas within the FBI as well. And while it’s good to get fresh blood into supervisory positions, one has to wonder why that wouldn’t also apply at the very top of the organization as well. Continue reading
