At next week’s State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama is likely to continue his ongoing push for more gun control. It’s a push first spurred on by Obama’s gun control allies in the liberal media. In the wake of the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks quickly moved to exploit the tragedy to push for more gun control legislation while mostly ignoring solutions that respect gun owners’ Second Amendment rights.
MRC analysts reviewed all 216 gun policy stories on the Big Three networks’ evening (ABC’s World News, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News) and morning show programs (ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, NBC’s Today), beginning with the evening of the shooting through January 17, the morning after Obama made his speech surrounded by children who had sent him letters pushing for more gun control.

The same networks that have been hyping secret video of Mitt Romney talking about who pays taxes, hyperventilating about the Republican’s “seismic” bombshell,” have, thus far, completely ignored the revelation from the Congressional Budget Office that “significantly” more Americans will have to pay a “tax penalty” for being uninsured, many in the middle class.
All three evening newscasts on Wednesday and the morning shows on Thursday totally skipped this report. The Associated Press explained, “The new estimate amounts to an inconvenient fact for the administration, a reminder of what critics see as broken promises.” Writer Ricardo Alonzo-Zaldivar added, “Nonetheless, in his first campaign for the White House, Obama pledged not to raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year and couples making less than $250,000.”
Yet, World News, the NBC Nightly News, the CBS Evening News, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning and Today all avoided the topic.
GMA opted for more important topics, such as an amusement park mishap that caused several people to be stranded on a roller coaster for hours.

One day after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney quipped that “no one’s ever ever asked to see” his birth certificate, a plane towed a banner over his Ohio rally declaring “America is better” than “birtherism.”
The problem? The banner contained an elementary grammatical error: It used “then” instead of “than.”
The Obama campaign rolled out similar “birther” accusations Friday, including producing a 16-second web video saying the country doesn’t need a “birther-in-chief.”
While there’s nothing to suggest the Obama campaign had anything to do with the banner, it‘s not the first typo to befall the president’s re-election effort this week:
A photo of him posing with several students to spell out “O-H-I-O” swapped the “H” and the “I” for “O-I-H-O.”

The liberal media have repeatedly and deliberately turned a blind eye to the violent, hateful culture of liberalism, particularly their vicious attacks against those who advocate traditional Christian values and conservative principles. We saw it during their deceptive, romanticized coverage of Occupy Wall Street. We saw it again during their sneering, anti-Christian coverage of the Chick-fil-A controversy. And now we’re seeing it through NBC’s and CBS’s dismissive coverage of this senseless shooting at the FRC, which the FBI has classified as an act of domestic terrorism.
Imagine if, God forbid, this exact same thing had happened at a Planned Parenthood or the Southern Law Poverty Center, which labeled both Chick-fil-A and FRC hate groups. We’d be hearing an endless loop of stories about the danger of militant, hate-filled right wing wackos.

Didn’t take long for Democrat activists to violate their call for civility. We knew this would happen, but where is activist old media holding these protesters accountable?

It was the media who told us (before any of the facts were in) that it was incivility on the part of Republicans and tea party members who created the environment that led to the tragic shooting in Tucson. Of course, we all knew they were wrong, but they still continued with that template for two or three weeks after the shooting.
Now, Democrat activists have put Republican Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, in cross hairs, they have called to “reload,” they have compared him to Hitler and he and his family have been threatened. All of this is happening because he is working to balance the state’s budget.

Shown here is the image of a fake cover for former President George W. Bush’s recent book.
CBS News aired a fake cover of former President George W. Bush’s memoir over the weekend, after a staffer apparently got duped by a hoax image floating around the Internet.
The image of the faux cover, along with that of several other genuine book covers, was flashed on screen for a fraction of a second during the introduction to a feature package Sunday about how book covers are designed.
The title of the Bush book read: “Desision Points … How I Managed to Go Eight Years Without Making One Good Decision.”
Save for the headline, the cover image looked similar to that of the real book, “Decision Points.”
CBS issued a statement acknowledging it made a “mistake,” saying nobody could see it “because you’d have to freeze the frame to notice it.”
“Clearly we have to be more careful when downloading material,” CBS said, calling the incident a “cautionary tale” about the risks of Internet content.

At a fundraiser last week at the home of former ABC and CBS News reporter and Obama staffer Linda Douglass, President Barack Obama reportedly told those in attendance he could use a break.
Douglass’ husband is John Phillips, a wealthy lawyer, and the couple hosted Obama and the $30,400 a person fundraiser to raise money for Democrat candidates. Phillips also worked on Obama’s campaign and, when he introduced Obama, he said, “I can remember walking down those snowy streets of Des Moines in the primary… We sleep much better knowing that you are our president at this difficult time,” according to washingtonexaminer.com.
Obama then thanked Phillips and Douglass for their work and acknowledged the two own a nice home in Italy. Obama then reportedly said, “I’d appreciate a little break and some Tuscan sun. Some pasta. I could use it.”
Let me get this straight: Obama has been President about 20 months and has spent all or part of 38 days (according to ABC News) on “vacation.” When he’s not on vacation he’s carted around in fancy cars or an opulent airliner, never opening his own doors, carrying his own bags or preparing his own meals. It seems he plays golf almost every day. But more than a month of vacation with less than two years on the job is not enough?
Let me just say, President Obama, if the work’s too tough for you can quit any time. Remember, you asked for the job. No one forced it on you and, judging by the latest polls, most people would just as soon see you quit.
But take heart: If you want to stick it out, you’re almost halfway through. Your term ends on January 20, 2013. Don’t let the door slap your butt on the way out.

Last week, TSA issued a memo to its employees that announced a new policy of filtering Internet access, and that among the sites to be blocked were those offering “controversial opinions.” After CBS reported the memo, conservative bloggers and the ACLU found some rare common ground for protest. Initially, TSA said that the memo didn’t refer to politics, but now the Washington Times reports that they’ve revised the policy anyway (via Weasel Zippers):
After an uproar from conservative bloggers and free-speech activists, the Transportation Security Administration late Tuesday rescinded a new policy that would have prevented employees from accessing websites with “controversial opinions” on TSA computers at work.
The ban on “controversial opinion” sites, issued late last week, was included as part of a more general TSA Internet-usage policy blocking employee access to gambling and chat sites, as well as sites that dealt with extreme violence or criminal activity.
But the policy itself became controversial as the Drudge Report and a number of conservative bloggers highlighted the possibility that the policy could be used to censor websites critical of the agency or of the Obama administration in general. The American Civil Liberties Union also questioned the language.
