Perry’s Flat Tax Proposal Puts Him Back in the Saddle Again

This plan is a winner for Gov. Perry because it’s self-explanatory, brief enough for everyone to get their minds around, and, most importantly, rooted in the pursuit of decreasing the size of government while simultaneously increasing liberty. Continue reading

Perry: You know what’s a lot of fun? Birth certificates!

However, we don’t need to see Obama’s college transcripts any longer, mainly because we have almost three years of Obama’s record as a presidential failure for Republicans to highlight in 2012. The same is true for birth certificates, especially after the state of Hawaii repeatedly confirmed his birth in Honolulu and the release of the certified birth record in May of this year. Harping on Obama’s college grades and the lack of transparency won’t hurt the GOP and might be “fun” in tweaking Obama’s vanity, but spending any time aligning the GOP with the die-hard conspiracy theorists does distract from the better and more substantive arguments we can use to convince voters to send Obama packing. It also undermines the credibility of the candidates who indulge in this nonsense, and reflects poorly on the GOP. Continue reading

Wrap-up from Waterloo: Perry embraced, Bachmann falls a little flat

In contrast, Bachmann’s reception seemed less enthusiastic. The lighting had to be changed before Bachmann spoke, apparently at the campaign’s insistence, which delayed her entrance and interfered with the timing of her entrance announcement. But more puzzlingly, Bachmann didn’t arrive to mix with the crowd before the event started, waiting until she was scheduled to speak to enter the Electric Ballroom. Perry arrived early and greeted every table, the kind of retail politics that Iowa usually rewards — and that Iowans expect. Whether the attendees were off-put by the snub or not, Bachmann received less enthusiastic response than Perry did for his speech. I should note that Bachmann actually gave a better delivery of what was essentially the same speech she did in Ames, with much better use of dynamics and projection that fit the more intimate environment. Texas Holds ‘Don’t Touch My Junk’ Rally

The U.S. Attorney’s office was furious with the bill, threatening to cancel flights in Texas if the bill passed, arguing that TSA agents would not be able to do their jobs properly. The Senate heeded this warning and voted against the bill.

Those at the “Don’t Touch My Junk” rally hope the governor will resurrect the bill in special session. Continue reading

Texas Guv Spokesperson: Border Briefing Declined Because ‘We’re Living it Every Day’

What do Republicans want, a moat filled with alligators? In any case, by refusing to be briefed by the administration’s border security team, Rick Perry’s totally blowing his chance to meet Eva Longoria (update: or meet her again, I should say). Continue reading
