Rush: Obama created crimes with gunrunning

[WND.com EXCLUSIVE]

‘It was liberalism on parade. It’s who these people are’

rush-limbaugh

Radio giant Rush Limbaugh is coming down hard on the Obama administration’s “Fast and Furious” operation today, calling it “liberalism on parade” in a misguided attempt to promote stricter gun control in America.

“The whole point of Fast and Furious was to create mayhem in Mexico among drug cartels with American-made weapons easily procured so that you and I would stand up in outrage and demand tighter gun laws,” Limbaugh said.

“It was deceitful. It was sneaky. It was going against the will of the American people. It was liberalism on parade. It’s who these people are. They want tighter gun laws.”

The White House today tried to undercut a congressional investigation of the scandal in which the Department of Justice allowed guns to be sold and delivered to Mexican drug cartels by announcing tens of thousands of documents were covered by executive privilege.

This afternoon, a House panel voted to place Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena for the documents, defying Obama’s assertion of executive privilege.

Paul Ryan: ‘Meet this moment, and bring about change from the debt-laden welfare state’

April 30, 2012

If Paul Ryan were to become president or vice president someday, or speaker of the House, he would still likely be remembered for the work with which his name is almost always linked: the House GOP’s alternative budget, officially known as “The Path To Prosperity,” but inevitably referred to in media shorthand as “The Ryan Budget” or “The Ryan Plan.”

It is a plan that has carried him to the nation’s front pages in the years since he introduced the first version in 2008 and indeed, it propelled him to being the Veep candidate with the most media coverage between March 16 and April 16, according to HighBeam research. He bested popular Sen. Marco Rubio, 27 percent to 23.5 percent, according to the analysis of media attention, released last week.

The Ryan Budget, unlike its predecessors, has special significance in 2012: This is a presidential election year and The Ryan Budget is sure to be targeted by Democrats as a repository of “gloom and doom” and, perhaps, embraced by Republican officeholders and candidates as a program they will enact if they maintain control of the House and win the Senate and presidency this fall.

Boehner Demands Year-Long Tax Cut, Challenges Senate to Heavier Lift

[FoxNews.com]

Published December 19, 2011

WASHINGTON –  Under the gun from his Republican caucus and unwilling to let the Senate off the hook, House Speaker John Boehner on Monday said the House GOP will reject a two-month payroll tax cut bill that does nothing to help businesses plan or Americans save.

House leaders are planning a vote Monday night to approve a larger package than the Senate-passed legislation, whose price tag is $33 billion and which allows for the Social Security tax rate to stay at 4.2 percent from 6.2 percent for another two months instead of the year that most members prefer.

Former Holder Chief of Staff Nomination to Court Imperiled Over ‘Fast and Furious’

[FoxNews.com]

Published November 15, 2011

The confirmation of a former aide to Attorney General Eric Holder to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces may be in peril over his response to questions posed by Arizona Sen. John McCain about his knowledge of Operation Fast and Furious.

Kevin Ohlson, who worked as Holder’s chief of staff from January 2009 to January 2011, faces a confirmation hearing on Thursday for the post. The panel with jurisdiction is the Senate Armed Services Committee, of which McCain is the ranking Republican and Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., is chairman.

In his response Monday to a questionnaire sent from McCain last week, both obtained by Fox News, Ohlson said he knew nothing about the operation while he was at the Justice Department.

Crime Security Company: China Linked to Cyber Attacks on 48 Chemical and Defense Companies

[TheBlaze.com]

BEIJING (The Blaze/AP) — A U.S. computer security company says from its analysis, cyber attacks on at least 48 chemical and military-related companies in an effort to steal technical secrets have been traced to China.

The targets included 29 chemical companies and 19 others that make advanced materials used by the military, California-based Symantec Corp. said in a report. It said the group included multiple Fortune 100 companies but did not identify them.

Figure 1 from Symantec’s report: This data is derived from the IP addresses of machines connecting back to the command and control server. The majority of infected machines are located in the US, Bangladesh and the UK; however, overall there is wide geographical spread of infections.

“The purpose of the attacks appears to be industrial espionage, collecting intellectual property for competitive advantage,” said the report.

This news comes in as China is also denying an accusation made last week by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission that the country hacked into two U.S. weather monitoring satellites, Reuters reports. The commission states that it hasn’t actually traced these weather satellite hacks back to China, but that the hacks appear consistent with “with authoritative Chinese military writings”.

Security experts say China is a center for Internet crime. Attacks against governments, companies and human rights groups have been traced to this country, though finding the precise source is nearly impossible. China’s military is a leader in cyberwarfare research but the government has rejected allegations of cyberspying and says it also is a target.

House Kills Stopgap Spending Bill Over Disaster Relief Dispute

House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio speaks to the National Automobile Dealers Association meeting in Washington, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011.

In a rebuke to GOP leaders, the House on Wednesday rejected a measure providing $3.7 billion for disaster relief as part of a bill to keep the government running through mid-November.

The surprise 230-195 defeat came at the hands of Democrats and tea party Republicans.

Democrats were opposed because the measure contains $1.5 billion in cuts to a government loan program to help car companies build fuel-efficient vehicles. For their part, many GOP conservatives felt the underlying bill permits spending at too high a rate.

New GOP Super Committee member: We can’t rule anything out, including tax hikes

I think he means this as a generic gesture of goodwill, i.e. let’s not start drawing lines until we’ve at least met face to face, but I bet a lot of grim, knowing glances and nods are being exchanged at Americans for Tax Reform right now.

A leading Republican lawmaker would not rule out tax increases on Thursday if they could boost economic growth, adding that “everything is on the table” for a congressional panel charged with forging a deal to cut the deficit.

House Republicans File Bill to Repeal Tanning Tax

A group of House Republicans introduced legislation Friday to repeal the 10 percent tax on tanning services, saying the measure included in President Obama’s health care reform is a killer for small business owners.

“America’s small businesses and hard-working middle class should not have to foot the bill for Obamacare, said Rep. Michael Grimm, a freshman Republican from New York. “The health care law unfairly imposes onerous taxes, like the tan tax, on our nation’s business owners and consumers, slowing economic growth and costing jobs.”

DON’T LET THE DEMS HOLD OUR TROOPS HOSTAGE

Can the House “deem” a bill into law?

HotAir.com

posted at 1:00 pm on April 2, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

Republicans screeched when Louise Slaughter attempted to push a “deem and pass” strategy for ObamaCare a little over a year ago, arguing that the notion of deeming the bill as passed in the House without a direct floor vote was an affront to democracy and the Constitution.  Democrats agreed — in 2003, when Republicans tried the same thing on a tax-credit measure.  In the end, Democrats abandoned “deem and pass” as a strategy after less than a week and held a floor vote on ObamaCare instead, which passed.

Republicans swore to restore Constitutional processes if returned to the majority in the House.  They’re not off to a great start.  They have revived deem and pass, with a twist — instead of claiming that a bill has passed, the GOP voted that a House bill would be deemed as effective law if the Senate failed to act (via David Brauer):

The House narrowly passed legislation on Friday that calls for a House-passed FY 2011 spending bill to become law should the Senate fail to approve a spending bill by April 6. It would also prevent members of Congress from being paid during a government shutdown.

By Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter

Rep. Steve King, a leader of House Republicans seeking the repeal of Obamacare, tells Newsmax that the healthcare reform law constitutes “a theft of the liberty of the American people” and repeal is an ultimate certainty.

The Iowa Republican also declares that Obamacare was the “core issue” that ended Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ control of the House, predicts that the Senate will go along with the House and vote for repeal, and says if President Obama does not sign a repeal bill then Republicans will defund healthcare reform until Americans elect a president in 2012 who will support repeal.

Ahead of Wednesday’s anticipated vote in the House on Obamacare repeal, Rep. King is presenting hundreds of thousands petitions from Americans demanding the repeal. In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, King was asked what message he is hoping to send.

The GOP has won the debate over President Obama’s controversial healthcare law, says Rep. Steve King. The Iowa Republican is confident that the GOP will be able to repeal it if a vote is forced in the Senate. He expects support from House Democrats.

House Clears Way for Health-Care Repeal Vote [Update: Vote Postponed]

Washington Post

Posted at 12:03 PM ET, 01/ 7/2011

By Felicia Sonmez

On a largely party-line vote, the House on Friday cleared the way for debate on legislation that would repeal the national health-care overhaul, setting up a repeal vote next week.

The House approved the terms of debate for the repeal bill on a 236-to-181 vote. Four Democrats — Reps. Dan Boren (Okla.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Mike McIntyre (N.C.) and Mike Ross (Ark.) — joined Republicans to vote in favor of proceeding on the measure. All four voted against the health-care overhaul last year.

The vote came after a heated debate Friday morning on the House floor in which Democrats accused Republicans of fiscal irresponsibility and protested the GOP’s efforts to push along the repeal bill as quickly as possible.

“This is nothing but a gag rule,” Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) said of the GOP-led process.

Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) charged that Republicans had thrown “fiscal responsibility out the window,” citing the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s estimate that a repeal of the health-care overhaul would add $230 billion to the national deficit over the next 10 years.

Republicans countered that the public has already made up its mind in favor of repeal and that Americans voted for swift action in the November midterms.

Will the 112th Congress Finally Get It Right?

Chuck Norris's pictureIncoming House Speaker John Boehner and his Republican colleagues are intensely aware of public fury over how Congress operates. But following a lame-duck Congress that continued with business as usual, will this new Congress finally get it right?

As the 112th Congress officially convenes this week, the questions most of us have on our minds are: Will it finally…

—Reduce government spending?

—Reduce the national deficit?

—Reduce the national debt?

—Reduce earmarks and pork?

—Reduce briberies by lobbyists and special interests?

—Reduce Americans’ taxes?

—Reduce illegal immigration?

—Reduce our foreign entanglements?

—Reduce government overreach into our lives?

—Reduce government lying, cheating and corruption?

—Reduce constitutional disobedience?

…And so stabilize the nation and economy?

Editor’s note: The following is the latest installment in “Movers and Shakers: Republican Leadership in the 112th Congress.” The FoxNews.com series looks at some of the newly prominent House Republicans who will decide GOP and legislative priorities in the next Congress.

Of all the Republicans in line for a promotion when the next Congress convenes on Wednesday, perhaps nobody puts Democrats more on edge than Rep. Darrell Issa.

The wealthy Republican from California, who spent the last session needling the Obama administration with media-ready reports and investigations on everything from ACORN to the stimulus package, is poised to up his game this year when he takes the helm of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The position makes him the de facto congressional watchdog for the administration, this time with subpoena power.

The START Treaty Must Be Opposed

Newsmax.com

Newsmax URGENT Editorial

Reposted: December 19, 2010

Within days, maybe hours, the U.S. Senate will vote on ratifying the New START treaty.

[CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON AND SENATORS AND TELL THEM TO OPPOSE THE TREATY- today at 202-224-3121.]

If approved, it will be a dangerous and capricious move that will undermine our security for years to come.

Some Senate Republicans appear ready to cave in to the strong-arm tactics the Obama administration and Sen. Harry Reid are using in their effort to ram through a lame-duck Congress one of the most sweeping nuclear treaties the United States has ever signed, a treaty that has many problems that could jeopardize America’s national security.

Make no mistake about it: Limiting nuclear weapons on all sides is a worthy call. As President Ronald Reagan said, “A nuclear war can never be won and must never be fought.”

But Reagan also understood that treaties with the Russians must be made deliberatively, be fair to both sides, be verifiable, and be linked to good behavior on the Russians’ part.

None of these attributes would be complied with fully if the United States signed New START today.

If You Want To Get Rich, Don’t Marry Money, Run For Congress

One of the great things about America is people are free to make as much money as they can, as long as its made honestly.  Sometimes though, there is a trend in income growth that makes one wonder if there is anything funky going on.

The US is still in the midst of a two-year long economic downturn, unemployment and underemployment are at levels not seen for seven decades and at the same time U.S. median household income dropped 3%  to $50,221 between 2008 and 2009, the second annual  decline, according to the Census Dept.

There is a group that saw its wealth increase during that same period, Members of Congress. The Center for Responsive Politics analyzed the financial disclosure forms of the members of Congress and found that the collective personal wealth of congressional members increased by more than 16 percent between 2008 and 2009. The study also reported that half of all members had a personal wealth of over a million and around 20% over $10 Million. To put that in perspective only one percent of all Americans are millionaires.

In 2008 median wealth for a member of Congress was $785,515 it grew by 16% in 2009  to $911,510 (vs -3% of US HH income).

GOP Decision to Cancel White House Meeting Brings Talk of Gamesmanship

FoxNews.com

Published November 17, 2010

Whether it was a political delay tactic or a scheduling mishap, Republicans are finding themselves in a PR battle to explain their canceling on President Obama’s announced meeting Thursday with congressional leaders.

Having canceled a press conference on Wednesday scheduled to follow the House GOP’s leadership election, Republicans said they also don’t have time to pay a visit to the White House while they are still in planning and organizational mode.

But Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, rejected even calling the delay a postponement because the only date Republicans agreed to was Nov. 30 when all members would be free to meet.

“That’s literally all there is to it,” he told FoxNews.com.

AP – Nov. 10: House Speaker-in-waiting John Boehner of Ohio accompanied by Republican Majority Transition Chairman Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., speaks during a news conference on Capitol Hill. Boehner announced he plans to fly commercial as House Speaker.

Presumptive House Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday that he will not use the military jet provided to current Speaker Nancy Pelosi to fly from D.C. to his home district each week, but will board the same airlines as everybody else.

Pelosi had claimed after she became speaker in 2007 that a military aircraft was offered to her in light of position as second in line to the presidency. But Boehner said he’s not so concerned.

“I’ve talked to our security folks about the security involved in my new role. Over the last 20 years I’ve flown back and forth to my district on commercial aircraft and will continue to do that,” Boehner, R-Ohio, said.

Democrats Scale Back Agenda on Their Own Terms

Logo

by Wendell Goler | October 04, 2010

Even though the president’s aides believe Democrats will retain control of the House and Senate, they’re prepared for a scaled down legislative agenda after next month’s elections. But officials say it’s not because Republicans will be calling more of the shots.

Robert Gibbs at the press briefing October 4, 2010 (Fox News Photo)

Part of the reason is that the largest items on Mr. Obama’s agenda, including the Recovery Act, health care reform and financial regulatory reform, have already been passed by Congress. Another part of the reason is that few here expect Republicans to follow their likely gains in the House and Senate, with a change in their strategy of opposing the Democrats’ initiatives.

Asked at a briefing about unfinished legislative business, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs ticked off a number of items for a potential lame duck session: extending the Bush administration tax cuts, ratifying the START treaty with Russia, reauthorizing the Children’s Nutrition program and confirming Austan Goolsbee as the president’s new budget director as well as confirming a number of federal judicial nominees.

While the debate over extending the tax cuts is likely to be resolved in the lame duck session, either by temporarily extending all the cuts or permanently extending just those for the middle class, some of the other issues are likely to spill over into the next legislative session. And they are “small ball” compared with what Democrats managed to pass this year, largely over the objections of Republicans.

Pelosi Knows the Tea Party Has Its ‘Most Effective Weapon’ Aimed At Her

Glen Templeton \”God Bless Good Old Boys\”

Harvard Professor V.O. Key, Jr stated in his seminal work, “The Responsible Electorate”: “The most effective weapon of popular control in a democratic system is the capacity to throw a party from power.”    That weapon is aimed at San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts who hijacked the peoples’ House.

There has been much said about the Tea Party blaming its views on right wing talk show hosts and political pundits.  Many believe the Tea Party was formed by a Democratic Party and Administrations false conclusion that their success in the 2008 election was a vindication of their beliefs, the swing of the electorate response to the campaign positions taken, an indication of the intuitive mood of the people and, finally, as the respect it represents by an intelligent electorate.

Key concluded:  “This narcissistic approach assumes it’s most repulsive form among election winners who have championed intolerance, who have stirred the passions and hatreds of people, or who have advocated causes known by decent men to be outrageous or dangerous in their long run circumstances.”  The great Presidential scholar Richard Neustadt called it the pivotal nature of character to Presidential performance and James Barber of Duke University enhanced it with his classic book “Presidential Character”.  They both concluded that it was character more than policy that determines Presidential performance.
