Tightening up on abortion restrictions

Ohio is moving to ban late-term abortions with a new law that prohibits terminating babies that would be viable outside the womb.

“It’s a part of a national strategy to overturn Roe v. Wade,” explains Mike Gonidakis, executive director of Ohio Right to Life. “Five other states have the exact same law on the books, and we’re going to ban late-term abortions in Ohio. We believe all innocent human life should be protected, but it’s part of a strategy. We want to end abortion from conception, but at this point…we’re part of a national strategy to get this in front of the United States Supreme Court.”

The measure is now on its way to the desk of Ohio’s “very pro-life” governor.

“We campaigned for him to get elected, and Governor John Kasich will sign this bill,” Gonidakis assures.

His pro-life group has also introduced a propsal to defund the state’s Planned Parenthood. In 2004, the abortion provider was stripped of state tax dollars, so the current measure would send the federal tax dollars dedicated to it to other organizations that are not associated with terminating the lives of unborn babies.
