Michigan Dem on right-to-work law: There will be blood

(HumanEvents.com) As protests against Michigan’s right-to-work laws swelled, pro-union Democrat legislator Douglas Geiss took to the state House floor – and Twitter – to promise violence. “We are going to undo 100 years of labor relations,” said Geiss. “And there will be blood. We will relive the Battle of the Overpass.” Continue reading

Supreme Court Case Could Threaten Big Labor’s Ability to Deduct from Public Employee Paychecks

They filed a lawsuit with the help of the National Right to Work Foundation, and a federal district court ordered SEIU to pay some of their money back, records show.

SEIU appealed the decision, the appeals court sided with the union, and the objecting non-union state employees took the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Then a funny thing happened. The union decided that it didn’t want to pursue the case anymore, refunded the employees the full amount of the “special assessment,” and is now arguing that the case is moot because there is no longer a claim, records show.

The NRTWF attorneys representing the employees say the case is still important because it would settle the question of whether union officials must give employees a chance to object to a special assessment before the union sticks its grubby hand in the cookie jar. Plus, the union never really acknowledged wrongdoing or promised not to do it again, NRTWF attorney James Young argued. Continue reading

Soros Funds Union Effort in Indiana

For the second time in a session that is only weeks old, Indiana House Democrats refused to show up for work on Tuesday, effectively delaying the passage of right-to-work legislation. The first delay was a three-day boycott that finished with Democrats coming back to the table to continue other legislative business. House Republicans expected to have a vote on the contentious right to-work bill after Democrat leader B. Patrick Bauer (known for vainly sporting a toupee) made public and private promises that his caucus would show up and participate in the legislative process. (BigGovernment.com) Continue reading

Right to Work: A Basic American Freedom

These campaigns were utilized against my company and its employees by the Service Employees International Union (“SEIU”). These campaigns used as the union’s “Persuasion of Power,” a term originally coined by UAW President Owen Bieber in 1984, and later resurrected by former SEIU President Andy Stern during his tenure. Corporate Campaign tactics utilize Saul Alinsky’s motto “Ridicule is man’s Greatest Weapon”. They isolate the target and then use intimidation, ridicule, misinformation and intimidation to destroy it! The campaigns embrace the use of tactics, as recently exposed in a SEIU Contract Campaign Manual, designed to force employers to capitulate with union demands and sign a Neutrality Agreement. This onerous agreement eliminates employees right to a secret ballot election during union organizing campaigns, imposes “Card Check” and requires employers to provide a roster of all employees and their home addresses to union organizers. By use of the Neutrality Agreement, union organizers are able to bypass a neutral and independent election. Instead, the organizers are able to identify employees and “visit” them at their leisure, including at times and places private to the employee. This includes an employee’s home, where they can then utilize any tactics they wish, unmonitored by any government agencies. They can intimidate or otherwise force a bare majority (50 percent plus 1) of the employee population to sign union cards, at which time the employer is automatically unionized. The scheme is fraught with danger of abuse, intimidation, improprieties and misinformation. Continue reading
