Five ways the mainstream media tipped the scales in favor of Obama

[FoxNews.com]

Nov. 4, 2012: President Barack Obama speaks during a campaign event at McArthur High School in Hollywood, Fla. (AP)

Fox News and other media outlets have projected that President Obama has been reelected to a second term. If, in celebrating his victory Obama wanted to give credit where credit is due, he might want to think about calling some of America’s top journalists, since their favorable approach almost certainly made the difference between victory and defeat.

Reviewing the 2012 presidential campaign, here are five ways the media elite tipped the public relations scales in favor of the liberal Obama and against the conservative challenger Mitt Romney:

1. The Media’s Biased Gaffe Patrol Hammered Romney: The media unfairly jumped on inconsequential mistakes — or even invented controversies — from Romney and hyped them in to multi-day media “earthquakes.” Case in point: the GOP candidate’s trip to Europe and Israel in late July. A Media Research Center analysis of all 21 ABC, CBS and NBC evening news stories about Romney’s trip found that virtually all of them (18, or 86%) emphasized “diplomatic blunders,” “gaffes” or “missteps.”

Which Obama Debate Gaffe Does Charles Krauthammer Think Might Cost the President Dearly

While many scored Tuesday night’s contentious presidential debate as a draw, or as a narrow victory for one of the candidates, Washington post columnist Charles Krauthammer thinks President Barack Obama made a gaffe — and a big one. One that will cost him dearly in the final debate on Monday.

In his Thursday column in the Washington Post, Krauthammer predicts this line from the president will come back to haunt him:

“And the suggestion that anybody in my team, whether the secretary of state, our U.N. ambassador, anybody on my team would play politics or mislead when we’ve lost four of our own, governor, is offensive.”

Rattled by recent polling showing Mitt Romney drawing roughly even with President Obama among female voters, Democrats are making yet another hard play over “ladyparts.”  American Crossroads is answering back with an ad blitz of their own, also targeting women.  It seems conservatives view women as more than just uteruses.  Weird, right?

This spot — which focuses on spending and debt — has $11 million behind it, and will air in swing states:

Romney paid extra taxes in 2011, Democrats complain

Democrats complained Friday that Gov. Mitt Romney boosted his federal income bill to fend off criticisms about the low tax-rate owed on income earned from investments.

“Romney manipulated one of the only two years of tax returns he’s seen fit to show the American people — and then only to ‘conform’ with his public statements,” said a statement from Sen Harry Reid, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate.

“Had he not limited his [charitable] deductions … what would Gov. Romney’s effective tax rate have been?” asked an afternoon email from Obama’s campaign staff.

In 2011, Romney choose to deduct from his taxable income only $2.2 million of the $4 million he donated to charity. By limiting that deduction, he increased his own federal tax rate to 14.1 percent, and deflated Democratic allegations that he paid little or no taxes in some years.

Contempt of Obama

[TeaPartyNation.com]

August 4, 2012

Posted by Judson Phillips on August 4, 2012 at 8:17am in Tea Party Nation Forum

Barack Obama is many things.  He is an arrogant elitist.  He is an anti-American Marxist and holds many people who would probably be described as red-blooded Americans in contempt.

There is one group of Americans Obama has shown nothing but absolute contempt for.

Who are they and why is it so important?

The people that Obama holds in contempt are the patriotic Americans who make up our military.

From day one, Obama has done nothing but show his contempt and even hatred for the American military.   Not only has he cut the budget for the military, but he is making them waste what money they have on useless and fraudulent programs like the biofuels program.

Obama’s contempt for the American military shows no limits.  His campaign and the Democrat Party are now suing to block early voting for military personnel in the crucial swing state of Ohio.

‘We Don’t Have Capitalism’: Glenn Beck, Richard Duncan and Art Laffer Break Down The Economic Crisis

[TheBlaze.com]

Glenn Beck hosted an unusual show on Tuesday night, devoting large segments of the program not to personal sermonizing, but instead to hearing from two different experts with very different takes on the economy. Those two experts were economists Art Laffer and Richard Duncan, who managed to both take a very pessimistic view of where the economy currently is, while also offering diametrically opposed suggestions for how to improve it.

Broadly speaking, Duncan approached the issue from the Left, while Laffer approached it from the Right. However, those two descriptions don’t actually do the full clash of ideologies justice. Duncan argued that the choice of options for the United States government was threefold, and that policymakers could either 1) Revert to a balanced budget, which would contract the economy all the way into a depression, 2) Keep spending at the current rates and go bankrupt and hit a recession in 5-10 years, or 3) Keep spending at current rates, but use the money to invest in up-and-coming technology, rather than to pay off cronies or create shovel-ready jobs. Duncan favored the third approach, as you’ll see in the following video:

How to Defeat and Replace Obamacare Now

American Spectator

The Right Prescription (Stop the Obama Tax Tidal Wave)

By on 7.5.12 @ 6:10AM

There is life after Roberts’ double cross and Obama’s latest flurry of lies.

Whether Left, Right, Independent, or Confused, no one who is not bought and paid for as part of the Obama political machine is going to like the Obama Double Cross of the American people on Obamacare. Before Obamacare was passed, Obama told the American people over and over, even on national TV, that the individual mandate was not a tax. After Obamacare was passed, Obama sent his lawyers into courts all over the country to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional precisely because it is a tax.

This is the top argument to feature now in discrediting Obama and Obamacare. No one likes a dishonest liar. Even worse when that dishonest liar is supposed to be our nation’s leader. When he sent his own lawyers into courts all over America to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional because it is a tax, he demonstrated that when he told the nation it was not a tax, he knew all along that was not true, and that he was planning all along to double cross the people he was supposed to be leading. That alone disqualifies him from serving as President. The majority of Americans who are still capable of thinking will recognize that we can’t have as our nation’s leader a dishonest double crosser.

Romney and his Republicans must now play in ads all over America the clips of Obama and his Democrats denying in dismissive terms that the individual mandate could in any way be considered a tax. Then they need to dramatize that after the Obamacrats had tricked the American people, they sent their lawyers into court to argue just the opposite, thinking that the American people are too stupid to realize they had been tricked.

Obama Pursues Higher Tax Rates, Growth Be Damned

[Townhall.com]

May 21, 2012

In the run-up to this weekend’s G-8 summit at Camp David, journalists have unfavorably compared European “austerity” with Barack Obama’s economic policies.

European spending cuts, the argument goes, have hurt people and are arousing political opposition, while Obama’s proposals to keep federal spending at 24 percent of gross domestic product indefinitely are likely to succeed.

Evil Republican spending cuts, in contrast, would deny the economy needed stimulus and wreak havoc on ordinary people. But the facts undermine the storyline. Veronique de Rugy of the Mercatus Center at George Mason University took a look at what “austerity” in Europe actually means.

Socialist-NO; Big Obtrusive Government Advocate-YES

[RebelPundit.com]

On Socialism

A friend who most often sees political issues differently than I recently sent me an excerpt from an article in Daily Finance with the subject line “not bad for a socialist.” The article said Fortune 500 companies’ profits increased 16.4% over last year and exceeded “the roaring economy” of 2006. (Interesting the left was not describing it such in that year’s midterm elections.)

I presume he saw the article as evidence that President Obama is not a socialist. To be clear, I believe it is a mistake to allege Obama is a socialist as it is counter productive. The last generation outputted from the state-controlled school system does not know the meaning of the word. Describing the President as an advocate of big, obtrusive government is descriptive with more impact.

Socialism is defined as an economic system in which the state has ownership or control over the means of production. Control can be acquired through regulation, taxation, public ridicule or other bullying tactics (think Boeing) without ownership (think GM). National Socialists (the real name rather than the acronym) found control more effective than ownership. Without outright ownership a scapegoat is available for politicians to lay blame for problems. Government ownership of BP, in which he was the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, would have hampered Obama’s ability to lay blame on the company for the oil spill.

Time magazine cover — forget the breast, what about the boy?

[FoxNews.com]

Published May 11, 2012

Jamie Lynn Grumet, the 26-year-old mother featured on the cover of Time magazine breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, has done more this week than become the poster woman for “attachment parenting,” the sometimes laudable movement that advises parents to be physically and emotionally available and responsive to their children.  She has shown the limits of such a concept, and the ways in which it can be twisted into a bizarre, contemptible caricature of itself.

Grumet is a model, and models have to have at least healthy dose of narcissism (television journalists like me, too, by the way).  But I fear Grumet has more than what’s healthy.

Because she thought nothing of becoming far more famous than she ever was or ever would have been by getting naked on the cover of Time using her son as a prop—letting him, in fact, look right into the camera and be completely recognizable while sucking her nipple.  He may never be better-known for anything than for being a breastfeeding 3-year-old on the cover of a national magazine.  Ever.

The Death of Liberalism

[SeanHannity.com]

Posted: May 09, 2012

Is liberalism dead? Sean says “I sure hope so.” Founder and Editor of the acclaimed “American Spectator”, R. Emmett Tyrell, Jr. has just come out with a new book “The Death of Liberalism” in which he analyzes the past present and future of liberalism. He contends that liberals have “carried on as a kind of landed aristocracy, gifted but doomed. They dominated the culture and the politics of the country, unchallenged from the beginnings of the Cold War to the first Nixon administration.” What has occurred since? Has the political environment of the United States acted as a warm and fuzzy incubator in which Liberalism could grow, or has the country taken a sharp turn? In the book, Tyrrell advocates the latter, pointing to the fact that since the 2008 elections Democrats have shown their true colors by putting us an additional trillion dollars into debt when faced with an entitlement crisis.

The leader of this decline, President Obama, “is a stealth socialist” and a leader such as Obama creates an unsustainable state because “In the Constitution there is life. There is energy. In statism there is only stagnation and death.” “The good news,” says Tyrrell “is that conservatives always outnumber the liberals and now, in some surveys, they outnumber the moderates.” Tyrrell continued, “The moderates and conservatives have, in truth, been under assault by liberal programs for years, and they are now reasserting themselves.” What is our proof of this? Tyrrell offers, “In the election of 2010, they flipped 20 legislative chambers from Democratic to Republican and gained six governorships.”

Obama goes up with $25 million ad buy

President Barack Obama speaks at a campaign rally May 5 at Virginia Commonwealth University.

By NBC’s Carrie Dann and Ali Weinberg

Gentlemen, start your airwaves.

Senior Obama campaign officials said Monday that a new major television ad buy reflects their broader media strategy: underscoring the need to build on the president’s first term while also responding to all attacks from what they characterize as a Republican monolith of the Romney campaign and its affiliated Super PACs.

The campaign will spend $25 million on swing-state ads this month, top strategist David Axelrod told reporters on a conference call. The ad is a positive one, the first positive ad the campaign has run. Axelrod argued that the sum spent on this ad would be more than Mitt Romney spent on positive ads through the entire GOP primary.

“I believe that by the end of this week — certainly by the end of next — we will have spent more money offering people a positive vision for the future, talking about the president’s record and the nation’s record under his leadership and where we’re going than Gov. Romney has in his entire campaign,” Axelrod said, “and there’s a reason for that.”

But his office did lie on Monday for national security reasons.

On Monday evening the White House’s press office distributed a fake Tuesday schedule for the president. The deceptive document went to the White House press corps, and to the many other media outlets and non-media groups that track the president’s schedule.

“In the afternoon, the President and the Vice President will meet with Secretary of Defense [Leon] Panetta in the Oval Office,” said the 6:31 p.m. email, titled “Daily Guidance and press schedule for Tuesday, May 1, 2012.” The guidance also announced that Jay Carney, the president’s press secretary, would give a press briefing at 3 p.m.

Family Misses Flight after TSA Gives Pat-Down to 7-Year-Old — with Cerebral Palsy!

[PatriotUpdate.com]

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

The Transportation Security Administration is once again the subject of national scrutiny, this time after aggressively screening a 7-year-old female passenger with cerebral palsy which caused her family to miss their flight.

The girl, identified as Dina Frank in a report by The Daily, was waiting with her family on Monday to board a flight departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York headed to Florida.

Since Dina walks with the aid of leg braces and crutches, she cannot pass through airport metal detectors, and must instead submit to a pat-down by TSA agents.

Dina, who is also reportedly developmentally disabled, is usually frightened by the procedure. Her family reportedly requests that agents on hand take the time to introduce themselves to her.

However, the agents on duty at the time began to handle her aggressively instead.

Not many weeks ago, Barack Obama announced that Congress was being uncooperative, so he would have to go it alone with executive orders to make changes he wanted for America.

Then he stated he is confident that the Supreme Court would not choose to overturn his health care law, through which the government requires Americans to buy a product approved by the federal bureaucracy or face fines.

His diminishment of two of the three co-equal branches of government has caught the attention many citizens, and now a legal expert has weighed in with a stark warning about the future of the nation.

BARACK OBAMA: A CONSTITUTIONAL LAW PROFESSOR?

[LibertyNewsOnline.com]

April 03, 2012 10:44 pm – R F Kilfeather

UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE, Harvard should have its Law School Accreditation revoked if its students are so ignorant of the Constitution. “Good Grief” said Charlie Brown…

The President of the United States just stated that the Supreme Court has no business in striking down a law passed by Congress because it was democratically voted in by its majority.”. He then explained the meaning of Judicial Activism, by saying a Supreme Court which strikes down a Congressional Law, signed by the President, is Judicial Activism. ..Huh! He supports that by saying if his Health care fiasco is struck down by the court, that will be unprecedented! …What!

Double “Good Grief”. Striking down unconstitutional laws is the job description of the Supreme Court of the United States. I suggest he read Article III, Section 2, first sentence referencing the Supreme Court: “The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and …etc.”.

Energy Policy, Keystone, Gas Prices – What Is the President Putting Off?

By Christine Hall, March 26, 2012

Washington, D.C., March 26, 2012  – Oops.  President Obama was caught Monday on a live microphone asking outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for more “space” on missile defense. “This is my last election,” Obama said. “After my election, I have more flexibility.”  This raises the question: What other important policy matters is the President is putting on hold until after the election?

Obama put off dealing with the Keystone Pipeline, thus avoiding a politically difficult decision in a situation that pitted Obama’s backers in the environmental movement against those in organized labor. Obama put the nation’s energy security at risk because he was worried about political ramifications.

“Whether it’s the Keystone XL Pipeline or missile defense, the president puts political calculations ahead of the national interest. How very un-presidential,” said CEI senior fellow Marlo Lewis.

“The President’s hot mic gaff reveals the Obama administration’s agenda of putting political ambitions ahead of the country,: said CEI Labor Policy Counsel Vincent Vernuccio. “In January, Obama rejected making a decision on the Keystone Pipeline because of what the White House called an ‘arbitrary deadline.’ But the President’s comments today show that the only problem with the deadline is that it came before his re-election and forced him to choose between his extreme environmentalist supporters and his labor union allies.

Obamacare Mandate says Pregnancy is a Disease [Reader Post]

[FloppingAces.net]

By:
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:00 am

Once Barack Obama said that babies were a punishment:

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old,” he said. “I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.

But now we learn that in Obamacare, pregnancy is not simply a punishment, it is a disease.

Covering contraception is cost neutral since it saves money by keeping women healthy and preventing spending on other health services,”

Preventing this “disease” is supposed to save big money.

Democratic chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “[Contraception costs] about $700 a year. That’s real money.”

Typical of democrats, something is provided for “free” at someone else’s cost.

Privately, however, insurers say there’s nothing “free” about preventing unwarranted pregnancies. They say the mandate also covers costly surgical sterilization procedures, and that in any case even the pill has up-front costs.

“Saying it’s revenue-neutral doesn’t mean it’s free and that you’re not paying for it,” an industry source told The Hill.

Doctors still have to be paid to prescribe the pill, drugmakers and pharmacists have to be paid to provide it – and all that money has to come from insurance premiums, not future hypothetical savings, the source said.

Did Sen. Dianne Feinstein Reveal…Mossad Chief’s Secret Visit?

[TheBlaze.com]

Did Sen. Dianne Feinstein Just Reveal....Mossad Chief’s Secret Visit?Israel’s diplomatic and military correspondents got quite the surprise watching the live feed of the Senate Intelligence Committee when Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) revealed the head of the Mossad had made a secret visit to Washington earlier this week to hold talks with senior U.S. officials.

The item led the “Mabat” main newscast on Israel’s government-run network IBA on Tuesday evening and was the headline on Ha’aretz newspaper’s website.

The travels of Mossad Director Tamir Pardo are usually kept secret and in fact, the name of the head of the Mossad and Shin Bet [Israel’s version of the FBI] were up until a few years ago kept secret from the public.

Ha’aretz reports:

The clandestine Washington visit was exposed during a hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, which was participated by CIA Director David Petraeus, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate panel.

During the meeting, Feinstein asked Clapper whether or not Israel intended to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, with the top U.S. intelligence official answering that he would rather discuss the issue behind closed doors.

Feinstein then indicated that she had met Mossad chief Pardo earlier in the week in Washington, with Petraeus adding that he too met Pardo and cited what he called Israel‘s growing concern over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The CIA chief also said that it was important to note that Israel considered a nuclear Iran as an existential threat.

In Sen. Feinstein’s defense, the travels of the head of the CIA to close allies is not as closely guarded, and she might not have known Israel’s modus operandi on the matter. On the other hand, as head of the Intelligence Committee, the senior Senator from California might have considered that with tensions running so high, some meetings are best held close to the vest. The question also remains: why did CIA Director Petraeus also publicly confirm the meetings?
He called it “part of an ongoing dialogue.”

Palin: It’s Now the GOP Establishment vs. the Tea Party

[FrontPorchPolitics.com]

 January 28, 2012 by

palin

We have witnessed something very disturbing this week. The Republican establishment which fought Ronald Reagan in the 1970s and which continues to fight the grassroots Tea Party movement today has adopted the tactics of the left in using the media and the politics of personal destruction to attack an opponent.

We will look back on this week and realize that something changed. I have given numerous interviews wherein I espoused the benefits of thorough vetting during aggressive contested primary elections, but this week’s tactics aren’t what I meant. Those who claim allegiance to Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment should stop and think about where we are today. Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater, the fathers of the modern conservative movement, would be ashamed of us in this primary. Let me make clear that I have no problem with the routine rough and tumble of a heated campaign. As I said at the first Tea Party convention two years ago, I am in favor of contested primaries and healthy, pointed debate. They help focus candidates and the electorate. I have fought in tough and heated contested primaries myself. But what we have seen in Florida this week is beyond the pale. It was unprecedented in GOP primaries. I’ve seen it before – heck, I lived it before – but not in a GOP primary race.

Blame Game Erupts as Hope for Deficit Deal Fades

[FoxNews.com]

Published November 20, 2011

committee_deficit_091311.jpgAP – Sept. 13, 2011:  Members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction meet on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Republicans and Democrats on the so-called Super Committee can’t agree on much. But as the deficit-cutting panel careens toward a Wednesday deadline without a deficit-cutting deal, they can agree on this — it’s all the other side’s fault.

In separate interviews across Washington Sunday, members of the committee charged with finding at least $1.2 trillion in savings hurled recriminations at one another for their apparent failure to strike an agreement. Sources close to the discussions indicate that, despite scattered last-ditch appeals for a deal, members of the panel are trying to figure out how to bring the process formally to a close.

Denver Occupiers fail in effort to occupy BlogCon11

[RedState.com]

Posted by Dan Spencer (Diary)  Friday, November 11, 2011

Nearly 200 Conservative bloggers were in the middle of a training session on data visualization when Occupy Denver launched their “surprise” effort to occupy the conference. The protest was a major fail in no small part because the Occupiers announced the “surprise” occupation attempt on Twitter.

When the Occupiers showed up they were met at the conference room door by dozens of cameras wielded by experienced bloggers.

The attempted failed occupation attempted after a brief and very one sided debate. The Occupiers were outnumbered, outclassed and totally incapable of articulating what was the point of their so-called protest. After about five minutes of chaos the Occupiers retreated from the conference facility with only one of their sorry group being arrested.

You can watch raw video of the chaos below:

Obama Launches Another Snitch Police Squad

Before you read this, think “FIRST AMENDMENT–Freedom of Speech/Press”

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 13, 2011 09:20 PM

They’re baaaaack. It’s another legion of Obama snitch police. The Obama 2012 campaign has rolled out “Attack Watch”“Get the facts. Fight the smears.” And report all dissidents and enemies here. The announcement was made earlier today on the official BarackObama Twitter account.

[Editor: He can attack us, be he wants to know who attacks him? MARXIST! DICTATOR!]

Twitter’s already having a ball with it: Just check out the #attackwatch hashtag.

If this all sounds familiar, it should.

Recall that during the Obamacare campaign in August 2009, the White House summoned Obama-bots to monitor blog postings and “casual conversations” of health care takeover opponents — and then report them to the president. The effort was led by health czar Nancy deParle and former ABC News correspondent Linda Douglass.

Who was behind the Obamacare Internet Snitch Brigade? Obama campaign operatives and former Soros-tied Center for American Progress progs then on the federal payroll. Reminder:

Czardom has its privileges. This week, President Obama’s health care overlord launched a taxpayer-funded initiative to recruit an Internet Snitch Brigade that will combat “disinformation about health insurance reform.” As the White House explained in a special online bulletin:

“These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”
