Barack and Michelle: FORMER LAWYERS?
[CWNewsONLINE.net]

I knew they had both lost their law license, but I didn’t know why until I read this.
This is 100% legit. I checked it out at
https://www.iardc.org/
. IARDC stands for Illinois Attorney Registration And Disciplinary Committee. It’s the official arm of lawyer discipline in Illinois; and they are very strict. [Talk about irony.] At the advanced age of almost 65, even I maintain (at the cost of approximately $600/year) my law license that I worked so hard and long to earn.
Big surprise.
The Former Constitutional Law Lecturer and U.S. President Makes Up Constitutional Quotes During State Of The Union (SOTU) Address.
Consider this:
1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a “lawyer”. He surrendered his license back in 2008 in order to escape charges he lied on his bar application. A “Voluntary Surrender” is not something where you decide “Gee, a license is not really something I need anymore, is it?” Forget to renew your license. No, a “Voluntary Surrender” is something you do when you’ve been accused of something, and you ‘voluntarily surrender” your license [five seconds] before the state suspends it for you.

I missed the middle section of Obama’s State of the Union address when I took a break to read “War and Peace,” but I gather he never got around to what I was hoping he’d say, which is: “What was I thinking?”
The national debt is $14 trillion, the Democrats won’t stop spending, and President Nero gave us a long gaseous speech about his Stradivarius.
I feel so Southern whenever I watch a Democrat give a State of the Union address — and not just because it makes me want to secede. Consternating the rest of the family, my Kentucky mother always talked back to the TV. I do it only when a Democrat is giving a speech.
And if liberals didn’t like Samuel Alito mouthing the words “not true,” they should be really happy I wasn’t in the House chamber Tuesday night.
All I kept hearing was, “Ann pays more.” That’s all I ever hear when Democrats start in with all that “investing.”

Reason TV and a Tale of Two SOTUs
HotAir.com | Reason.tv
Actually, Reason TV goes for a more prosaic title with iPhone and oBama: Two Expensive New Models. Only it’s hard to tell the 2011 iPhone from the 2010 model, just as it’s difficult to tell the 2011 SOTU from its predecessor in 2010. In fact, it’s pretty easy to merge the two speeches into the same theme both used, which is to spend even more on federal government initiatives, as Ted Balaker demonstrates:
However, Eric Ostermeier at Smart Politics did a little more analysis between the two speeches and found some key differences. The biggest of these is that Obama managed to talk about the economy less this year than he did last year, even after losing a midterm election for ignoring the economy and joblessness for most of his first two years as President, emphasis mine:

SOTU open thread: Obama to announce new age of Sputnik or something; Update: Ryan transcript added

He should be at the podium shortly before 9 p.m. ET but let’s open the thread now so you can sound off on the interminable cable-news pregame. The SOTU is the political equivalent of the Pro Bowl: No one cares and practically no one watches, but if you follow this particular “sport” fanatically, you’re pretty much obliged.
National Journal has a copy of the full text; the Examiner’s Timothy Carney summarizes the theme, quite aptly, as “national greatness liberalism.” How I summarize it: Long, long, long. Seriously, we’re going to be here all night. The entitlements section:
The bipartisan Fiscal Commission I created last year made this crystal clear. I don’t agree with all their proposals, but they made important progress. And their conclusion is that the only way to tackle our deficit is to cut excessive spending wherever we find it – in domestic spending, defense spending, health care spending, and spending through tax breaks and loopholes.
