ICE admits hundreds of illegal immigrants with criminal records released

Hundreds of illegal immigrants with criminal records were released earlier this year as the Obama administration prepared for budget cuts, according to newly released data that challenged claims the program involved “low-risk” individuals.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement released the figures to two top senators, after a three-month delay and under the threat of congressional subpoenas.
Of the 2,226 detainees that were released in February, the department revealed, “622 have been identified as having some type of criminal conviction.”
A statement from Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Carl Levin, D-Mich., who received the stats, said 32 of them had multiple felony convictions. The department then “re-apprehended” 24 of those, the senators said, after realizing the “seriousness” of their crimes.
McCain called for those responsible to be punished.

Thousands Attend Chris Kyle Memorial Service in Cowboys Stadium
[Breitbart.com]
February 12, 2013

Kyle’s coffin was placed at the center of Cowboys Stadium, draped in an American flag. Over 7,000 people came to pay tribute to him.
Kyle’s wife and children spoke in moving terms about the American hero. According to wife Taya, Chris made her feel like “pure gold.” “Thank you Chris thank you for loving me, all of me,” she said. “God worked through you to make me the woman I was supposed to be … You taught me I was okay just the way I am. I stand before you a broken woman but I am now and always will be a wife of a man who was a warrior both on and off the battlefield.”
Chris’ children wrote notes that were printed in the program. “You are the best dad ever,” wrote one of Kyle’s daughters, who signed only “Baby Girl.” “I never wanted you to die, I miss your heart.” His other daughter wrote, “One of the best things that has happened to me is you. I love you dad. I always will.”
Luminaries including Sarah Palin attended the funeral. There were no reported attendees from the Obama administration.

Oh my: Ted Cruz now leads Dewhurst by five points in Texas senate primary
[HotAir.com]
posted at 6:21 pm on July 12, 2012 by Allahpundit
The campaigns’ internal polls are, unsurprisingly, contradictory. Dewhurst’s has him up eight points, Cruz’s has him up nine. We need an impartial pollster (impartial as regards this race, at least) to settle this.
This race is one of the most stark examples of the Tea Party movement propelling a candidate that we’ve seen to date. 40% of voters identify themselves as members of that movement and Cruz has a 71-26 advantage with them. Dewhurst leads 57-34 with non-Tea Partiers, and they are 50% of the electorate, but it’s not nearly enough to drown out Cruz’s advantage with that group.
Texas is also an exceptionally rare state where Hispanic voters might be the difference maker in a Republican primary. Cruz has a 78-19 advantage with them…
The large name recognition advantage Dewhurst has enjoyed throughout the campaign has pretty much disappeared. 85% of runoff voters have an opinion about him, and Cruz is not far behind at 81%. We frequently found in our earlier polling that Cruz was winning with voters who knew him, but that he was losing overall because of the name recognition gap. That’s not a problem anymore. Cruz’s net favorability of +31 (56/25) is better than Dewhurst’s +19 (52/33). Since our final pre primary poll Cruz’s net fav has improved by 25 points, while Dewhurst’s has declined by 17.

Ted Cruz Forces GOP Runoff for Texas Senate Seat
[PatriotUpdate.com]
Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Tea Party darling and former state solicitor general Ted Cruz forced Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst into a runoff primary election which will decide who represents the Republican Party in a closely watched Texas Senate race.
Establishment GOP favorite Dewhurst outpaced Cruz handily Tuesday, but fell well short of breaking the 50 percent margin of votes cast needed to avoid a runoff. The pair emerged from a nine-candidate Republican field and will square off in a second round of voting July 31.
That means nine more weeks of a race that had already drawn national attention.A victory by Cruz may mirror an upset similar to Richard Mourdock’s ousting of 36-year Senate veteran Richard Lugar in Indiana.
The millionaire owner of energy consortia, Dewhurst won the endorsement of Gov. Rick Perry and poured $15 million of his own money into his campaign.

Justice Department files objection to Texas voter ID law
[FoxNews.com]
Published March 12, 2012
AP -FILE: Voters are shown in this Nov. 2, 2010, photo casting ballots in Texas. The Justice Department is objecting to a new photo ID law in Texas for voters, saying the state has failed to demonstrate that the the law is not discriminatory by design against Hispanic voters.
The department’s head of the civil rights division, Tom Perez, wrote a a six-page letter to Texas’ director of elections saying that Texas has not “sustained its burden” under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act to show that the new law will not have a discriminatory effect on minority voters. About 11 percent of Hispanic voters reportedly lack state-issued identification.
Perez wrote that while the state says the new photo ID requirement is to “ensure electoral integrity and deter ineligible voters from voting” the state “did not include evidence of significant in-person voter impersonation not already addressed by the state’s existing laws.”
Perez added that the number of people lacking any personal ID or driver’s license issued by
the state ranges from from 603,892 to 795,955, but of that span, 29-38 percent of them are Hispanic.

Jimmy Carter is Rick Perry’s Biggest Fan [Reader Post]
FloppingAces.net
If Barack Obama were prone to conspiracy theories, he might think the last couple of weeks were part of a plot orchestrated by Jimmy Carter to salvage his own legacy.
First off the Democrats get the GOP to acquiesce to a debt ceiling bill that will result in the federal government raising taxes and increasing spending by over $7 trillion over the next decade. The immediate result is United States government debt being downgraded for the first time in history, something Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner stated unequivocally would not happen only the week before.
Soon thereafter the Fed looked into their crystal ball and decided that economic prospects were so bad that they had to take the unprecedented step of publicly stating that they would be leaving interest rates near zero until mid 2013. It seems as if Keynesians never see – nay recognize – failure, they simply see another opportunity to try and do the same thing over again, only each time a bit bigger.
Up on Wall Street things weren’t going any better. The Dow dropped 600 points the day after the downgrade and it has spent the subsequent two weeks on a daily triple digit roller coaster. All together the market is down almost 10 percent since the beginning of the month.
Those things are tough, but they don’t really add up to much of a conspiracy. Hey, the unemployment rate went down… from 9.2% to 9.1%, that can’t be a bad thing. Unless of course that decline is the result of more people simply throwing in the towel and giving up looking for a job at all. Add to that the decline in productivity and the increase in labor costs and things start to look rather bleak. All this while Obama’s approval ratings slipped to the lowest levels of his presidency.

My Country ‘Tis Of Thee, Sweet Land of…Removing the Pledge of Allegiance?!
BigGovernment.com
Posted Jul 20th 2011 at 2:22 pm
Hard to believe, right? Well, it’s true … and it happened in Bowie County, Texas.
Just when I thought nothing could be as outrageous as my recent post “God Bless Our Military … just not at the Houston National Cemetery” where veterans are being censored for religious speech, I hear about what is happening in our furthest county of northeast Texas.
Seems the Bowie County Commissioners Court voted on June 13, 2011, to remove our country’s Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation from their county meeting minutes.
As reported on the Red Flame Wire:
… on June 13, 2011, the Commissioner Court, with the exception of Commissioner John Addington, decided that they no longer wanted the records to reflect that the Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation were said for fear it would give the perception that it is the courts official stance.

Obamacare Paid Out $2 Billion to Corporations
Newsmax.com
April 4, 2011 By Henry J. Reske
A little-known provision in the Obamacare legislation has sent $2 billion to corporations, unions and state public employee systems to subsidize health coverage for retirees. At the current rate, the government could blow through the entire $5 billion budgeted for the program before it is set to end, Byron York of The Washington Examiner reported.
The discovery by investigators for the House Energy and Commerce Committee was made just before a hearing to focus on Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight, which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The CCIO oversees the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program, which was set up to subsidize insurance for workers who retired before they were eligible for Medicare, the paper said.
The early retirees often have trouble getting health insurance, an HHS report said, because of age or chronic conditions, and the program was set up to bridge the gap between retirement and the creation of health-care exchanges provided for in Obamacare come into being in 2014.
The biggest chunk of the money paid out so far has gone to the United Auto Workers, which received over $206 million. AT&T collected $140 million, Verizon $91 million, General Electric $36 million, and General Motors $19 million, the paper said.
State governments have also collected large sums with the Public Employees Retirement System of Ohio receiving $70 million and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas $68 million.

Busting the Worst Little ACORN Lobbyist in Texas [Nuts.]
PajamasMedia.com

I take grim personal satisfaction in this PolitiFact fact-check.
Casting your political foe as a lobbyist — and hence beholden to some special interest — can make for explosive campaign fodder.
So it is that the Republican Party of Texas targets first-term state Rep. Kristi Thibaut, D-Houston. Dem State Rep Kristi Thibaut was an #ACORN lobbyist,” the party tweeted Aug. 31, linking to a web video. Earlier the same day, the party had tweeted: “Democrat State Rep. Kristi Thibaut, HD133, was a lobbyist for corrupt ACORN” and before that, “find out which Dem state Rep was a lobbyist for ACORN.”
That was me in my previous job, doing all that tweeting. At the Republican Party of Texas, we had launched a web site detailing how state Rep. Kristi Thibaut, a freshman Democrat in the state House, had worked for the ultra-corrupt and corrupting ACORN. What typically happened when I’d tweet something hot, was that the Texas Democrats’ house blog, Burnt Orange Report, or its operatives would flag the PolitiFact Texas crew on what I’d tweeted or said, and here would come PolitiFact to bug me. I don’t know whether the BORbots were involved in this one or not; either way, the case against state Rep. Kristi Thibaut is open and shut. She was a lobbyist for ACORN, and in office has continued to act on the group’s behalf. Kind of like someone else in a slightly higher office.

Invasion USA: What’s Wrong With Laredo?
BigGovernment.com
Posted Jul 25th 2010 at 12:16 pm
by Bob Owens
Tell Chuck Norris to stand down. Invasion USA never happened.
I contacted both the Laredo Police Department and the Webb County Sheriff yesterday and debunked claims that Los Zetas gunmen from the Gulf Cartel has crossed the border from Mexico and took over two ranches in Texas. The Laredo Morning News also refuted the claim. Pro 8 News, the NBC affiliate, didn’t think enough of the absurdity to even comment on it… they found the installation of a new traffic light more newsworthy.

Absurdly, the same trio of sites that cried wolf are still sticking by their story, utter lack of credible evidence aside.
Cypress News publisher John G. Winder is sticking with the story, not because any additional evidence has been produced, but because the two sources for his version of the story, blog Digger’s Realm and Examiner.com’s San Diego (CA) County Political Buzz Examiner blogger Kimberly Dvorak are standing by their militiamen and anonymous police sources.
The original Cypress Times story? A re-publication of the original Digger’s Realm story.
The Digger’s Realm story? Two anonymous Laredo police sources and a San Diego California Minuteman named Jeff Schwilk who claims he got his information from… an anonymous Laredo PD officer.San Diego County Poltical Buzz Examiner Kimberly Dvorak? She claims her information also comes from two anonymous Laredo PD sources.
Are we noticing a pattern here? Every bit of of this claim, which has now scattered far and wide across the Internet, can be traced back to two anonymous police department sources of a police department that does not even have jurisdiction where the alleged invasion is taking place.
I invite Digger and Kimberly Dvorak to provide me with the names and contact information of their anonymous police sources. Perhaps the officers will provide me with the answers to two simple questions that neither blogger has apparently thought to establish yet.
- What are the physical addresses of the two ranches Los Zetas are said to have taken over?
- What are the names of the ranchers that have been displaced from their ranches by Los Zetas?
It seems rather odd that the stories promoting this claim say that people were forced out, but that neither has thought to name, locate, or try to interview the best possible eyewitnesses. That is what you would expect from competent journalists. We’re not seeing it here.

Pennsylvania: Palin 24, Gingrich 23, Huckabee 20

That’s actually not the most intriguing data point from this poll, but I know the Palinistas will whine forever if I don’t highlight the fact that she’s leading somewhere, so there you go. Don’t get me wrong: It is interesting that she’d do well in a northeastern state, which traditionally aren’t thought of as “Palin country.” But of course these are primary voters we’re talking about, and Pennsylvania Republicans are sufficiently red-meat that Specter abandoned ship before having to face them in a primary. No shocker, really, that a “true conservative” would fare well with them.
So what’s the intriguing data, if not this? Well, this is actually a poll of two states by PPP — Pennsylvania and Texas — and not only is Gingrich suddenly doing surprisingly well, but Romney has slipped all the way back into fourth place. I’m not sure why that would be true now rather than three months ago after ObamaCare passed, when conservative antipathy to the man responsible for RomneyCare was at a fever pitch. Maybe it’s a simple case of Gingrich keeping a high profile lately and Romney keeping a low one? Regardless, Newt pulls 25 percent in Texas (good for the lead, believe it or not) and 23 percent in Pennsylvania. Reversal of fortune:

Pakistani national found guilty of conspiring to back Taliban, unlawful firearms possession
FoxNews.com

HOUSTON
HOUSTON (AP) — A Pakistani college student living in Texas was convicted Thursday of conspiring to help the Taliban and fight U.S. troops.
A federal jury convicted Adnan Babar Mirza, 33, of two conspiracy counts and seven firearms violations after a three-day trial in Houston. He faces up to five years in prison on each conspiracy count and 10 years on the weapons counts when he is sentenced on Sept. 10.
Mirza, who remains in federal custody, was one of four men arrested in 2006 for alleged participation in paramilitary training exercises at campsites around the Houston area so they could engage in a holy war.
Mirza’s attorney, David Adler, told jurors Mirza went on camping trips but denied they involved paramilitary training exercises.
Prosecutor Jim McAlister told jurors that the activities of Mirza and the other three men came to authorities’ attention after another of their friends, James Coates, decided “things were getting out of hand” and became an FBI informant.
Mirza claimed Coates was the one who was militant and promoted violence.
An undercover officer taped conversations with Mirza and the other men in which they allegedly talked about ambushing U.S. soldiers and triggering a bomb with a cell phone, according to court documents.

Gov. Perry: Cap-And-Trade Would Harm Texas
| NEWSMAX – AP

| AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry told renewable energy industry officials that a cap-and-trade climate bill in Congress would increase taxes and devastate the state’s energy sector.Perry, contending that the climate bill would mean “economic disaster” in Texas, said the state is encouraging alternative energy sources while improving the environment.
He told the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association on Monday that the state is achieving those goals through incentives and innovation. He said the federal climate legislation would negate the work the state has done. Environmentalists see cap-and-trade as the best way to control carbon emissions. Perry said Texas is a world leader in wind energy production and said progress is being made to spur production of solar, biomass and other alternative energy sources. © 2009 Associated Press. |
