THE VENTRILOQUIST’S DUMMY

I have this theory about Barack Obama. I think he’s led a kind of make-believe life in which money was provided and doors were opened because at some point early on somebody or some group took a look at this tall, good looking, half-white, half-black, young man with an exotic African/Muslim name and concluded he could be guided toward a life in politics where his facile speaking skills could even put him in the White House.
In a very real way, he has been a young man in a very big hurry. Who else do you know has written two memoirs before the age of 45? “Dreams of My Father” was published in 1995 when he was only 34 years old. The “Audacity of Hope” followed in 2006. If, indeed, he did write them himself. There are some who think that his mentor and friend, Bill Ayers, a man who calls himself a “communist with a small ‘c’” was the real author.
His political skills consisted of rarely voting on anything that might be deemed controversial. He went from a legislator in the Illinois legislature to the Senator from that state because he had the good fortune of having Mayor Daley’s formidable political machine at his disposal.

Obama on Why Michelle Was a Working Mom (at $316K Per Year): ‘We Didn’t Have the Luxury for Her Not to Work’
[CNSNews.com]
(CNSNews.com) – Speaking Friday at what the administration called “The White House Forum on Women and the Economy,” President Barack Obama said that after his two daughters were born, he and his wife—both Harvard Law School graduates—could not afford the “luxury” of having her stay home with the children.
In 2005, when Obama began serving in the U.S. Senate (and his daughters turned 4 and 7), he and his wife were earning a combined annual income of $479,062. Barack Obama was paid a salary of $162,100 by the U.S. taxpayers, and Michelle Obama was paid $316,962 to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Politics over Country: Senate Dems Delay Stopgap Funding/Disaster Bill
[MichelleMalkin.com]
By Michelle Malkin • September 23, 2011 02:08 PM
Ah, the games Beltway people play.
Harry Reid is stalling:
The U.S. Senate agreed to delay further action on a stopgap spending bill until Monday as Democrats and Republicans remained at odds over the measure, which would refill depleted disaster funds and ensure the government does not shut down in October.
“Everyone once in a while needs a little cooling off,” Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said. “We’ll come here Monday and more reasonable heads will prevail.”
What are Senate Dems doing instead of working this weekend?
This: Attending a fall beach retreat in South Carolina.
Like someone said: “There is nothing wrong with our country. There is something wrong with our politics.”

Less than 40 Days to Decide: O’Donnell Pulls Ahead in Delaware

Tea Party-backed candidate Christine O’Donnell, now accepted by the GOP, has beaten Rep. Mike Castle in the bare-knuckle race for the Republican Senate nomination in Delaware, according to a new poll.
The surge comes just at the right time for O’Donnell, with Delaware’s primary came along with contests in six other states. The Republican establishment in Delaware has engaged in a tough and personal battle with O’Donnell, criticizing her history of financial troubles while O’Donnell has described Castle as too moderate and gone so far as to question his manhood in a radio interview.
O’Donnell, in an interview Monday with Fox News, said her opponent is making “baseless” accusations against her — including claims last week that she violated campaign finance rules. She expressed confidence in her chances before Tuesday’s primary.
“There’s a wave, a tidal wave coming to Delaware. We’re riding it — my opponent is drowning in it,” she said. “No one thought that we could get this far.”

O’Donnell vying for an open Senate seat, the one previously held by Vice President Biden, and will likely face Democrat Chris Coons in November.
Castle suggested Republicans are making a big mistake if they elect his opponent in the primary. He said she’s got personal baggage and “no governmental experience whatsoever.” (Castle is considered a RINO; Republican In Name Only)
The election comes after Tea Party-backed candidate Joe Miller knocked off Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Alaska Senate primary last month. Like Miller, O’Donnell has the support of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Express.
The PPP poll showed about a third of Republican voters viewed the Palin endorsement as a plus, while about a quarter viewed it as a negative.
Castle enjoys overwhelming support from moderate voters in his party, but O’Donnell leads among the conservative wing. Among conservatives, the poll showed O’Donnell leading 62-31 percent.
“The poll also showed 55 percent of likely Republican voters think Mike Castle is ‘too liberal’ which echoes the message the Tea Party Express has delivered via hundreds of thousands of dollars in TV, radio, newspaper and online ads — as well as 80,000 mailers delivered to Delaware Republican households,” said Tea Party Express spokesman Levi Russell.
The poll of 668 likely GOP primary voters was conducted Sept. 11-12. The margin of error was 3.8 percentage points.
